How much work (or is work planned?) to have IPTV Simple Client behave better with other PVR backends?

I'm presently using the MythTV backend to bring my cable channels into Kodi and the EPG. I'd like to also have the EPG display live internet streams.

Unfortunately, and as mentioned on the wiki and in the OP, it's recommended to disable all other PVR addons. (I did indeed try it with keeping MythTV plugin enabled, and sure enough, IPTV Simple Client clobbered them all.) :-)

I have the same problem with Mediaportal on windows so I can confirm its not just Mythtv.

Have you tried configuring Mythtv's own IPTV function to work with m3u play lists usually used with simple iptv client? Doing IPTV with Mythtv should enable you to timeshift and record the streams.

I've been trying how to figure out how to integrate internet streaming channels like CBSnews, Bloomberg, NASA, etc with OTA channels in Kodi EPG without much success.
