I have direct ISO rips (no transcoding, just removing the menues and not needed audio tracks).
They are normal PAL 50hz 576i.

They play fine on boxee box (and other media players), but on Shield/kodi it can result in stuttering (often resolved by stopping and resuming the file - reported by other as well), and you are saying that it is not a Shield problem?

Yes the SATV currently stutters badly on PAL interlaced material, usually after playing for about 20 minutes. A stop and restart resolves it but it is very annoying. It affects 576i and 1080i material for me, I don't have 60hz interlaced material to test it as all my interlaced videos are PAL/50hz.

I was waiting for the next release of KODI before logging a bug report in-case the new version fixed it.

Lip sync also appears to drift about but I haven't managed to get a consistent result yet.

I think I know what is going on here as I've seen very similar problems with Mediacodec(stagefright) playing mpeg2 Interlaced material on a new AMLogic S905, even mediacodec on a AML S8xx displays the same issue.

Simply put mediacodec does not handle mpeg2 interlaced material very well at all. If you attach a Keyboard and hit the "O" key I suspect you will find software decoding is taking place using dc:ff-mpeg2. If that is the case Software deinterlacing is also occurring. I would fiddle with the OSD Video settings and change deinterlacing from Auto to something else.

This appears to be a Google OS mediacodec mpeg2 Android issue. Bug reports will need to go to Google themselves one would think.
