I find it very hard to believe someone cannot tell the difference between Hardware deinterlacing and Bob Software deinterlacing, particularly when you start viewing 576i content that is mpeg2 encoded.
A H264 / 1080i combo will lessen the degraded visual impact (if using Bob) due to the increased resolution and superior encoding routines baked into the codec itself.

Remind me who thought 480p Netflix was 1080p a little while ago? Wink
