Doesn't the X1 have a reasonable nVidia GPU integrated? If so it may be able to get it to do 2x Temporal/Spatial like nVidia GPUs on PCs?

I would love it to be that way, but as far as I understood, this is only possible trough VDPAU, which is not available with Android,

Ah - so as ever the APIs etc. don't allow fully flexible use of the hardware?

Possibly. Some early Core-series Celerons struggled with 1080i YADIF 2x ISTR.
