Linux IR receiver wan`t work
#1

Hi

Edit: Solution for startup with IR from suspend, look at the last post.

I`ve installed Kodibuntu as a standalone install on my Chrome Box.

I know have some problems, and hope someone can help me with it.
Have searched high and low, but not found any answers, or I have misunderstood the topics
and what it ment.

I can`t get my USB ir receiver to work, RC6. (Has worked nicely under OE) Tried restart etc.

This is what I found with lsusb:
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0609:031d SMK Manufacturing, Inc. eHome Infrared Receiver
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0cf3:311e Atheros Communications, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0681:0756 Siemens Information and Communication Products
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

As of this, I can see that it found the hardware, my USB receiver. But it will not work.

Inside Kodi, I can`t even choose that it sends key presses. That`s not an option, the choice I have is, mouse and joystick. Peripherals is grayed out.

I have tried to understand and use the "How to get a seamless remote experience", but this (lsusb) was the only thing I could get out of it.

F.ex: ir-keytable I can`t use, it just says it`s not a recognized command.
Lirc is installed, as og lircc-x to, don`t know right now, why I installed that :-(

I`m trying to get this to work on an HP Chrome Box, and the reciever is an USB standalone.

Hope someone can help me in the right direction.
Thanks in advanced. :-)
Petter :-)

Hi

I really don`t want to bump this. But my wife is starting to annoying me, :-)

Is there an more easy way to make this work. Buy something that just works out of the box for instance?

Your wife's just annoying you in general or about this lol.
I'm a bit of a noob myself so can't advise a great deal,
But going off that log it does look like your receiver is working OK I'm thinking your keys aren't mapped that's why nothing's happening.
Have you tried to ssh in and typing irw to see if your key presses are being picked up?
Also turn debug on and see what happens when you press the keys.
Also try the addon keymap editor that's what worked for me

It's a bug in the kernel. You have to upgrade the kernel to 3.18.4 I believe. It's explained the chromebox wiki. You can follow this guide, http://www.yourownlinux.com/2015/01/how-...x.html?m=1

Thanks for the help
But as I can see with "uname -a", it wont update.

It`s still 3.13 if I understand this right.

I've done it several times and it has worked every time. I get missing firmware errors too but it hasn't given me any problems. Below is something like the commands I always use to update the kernel. Try these and post back the output when your done along with the output of uname -r when your done.

Code:
mkdir kernelupdate

Code:
cd kernelupdate

Code:
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.18.4-vivid/linux-headers-3.18.4-031804-generic_3.18.4-031804.201501271243_amd64.deb

No I've done it on the Chromebox a couple times. I'm running kodibuntu right now with kernel 3.18.4. The only things extra I usually do is install lxterminal and gdebi. Are you sure your posting everything? your not running sudo apt-get upgrade afterwords are you? that might downgrade your kernel again. Just google any guide on how to upgrade ubuntu or lubuntu 14.04 to kernel 3.18.4 or higher via the command line and it will work if you've done it correctly. It's really very simple. Without being there to see it I can only suggest doing a clean install as maybe you've some how done something to screw up your linux system though I doubt it. Probably just some copy past error.

Hi

Thanks for the help
I re installed and now it works.
The update, and the IR sensor.

It`s a little bit laggy, but I`ll survive that. Maybe there is an setting for that in the Harmony settings.

And I can``t use the IR to start from suspend, as I could in OpenElec. Is that an setting or something?

Hi, Thanks for the help, I have made it work to day. Sadenly, I have bught me an lirc I don`t need. Not arrived yet.
Maybe I can change to that when it arrive, it`s a little bit smaler device.

What I did: Fallowed this site: Resume from suspend with MCE remote doesn't work after Mythbuntu upgrade, in the anser "1".

I don`t know why this helped, but it did. So I`m happy with the result.

Now, the box is started to get an error when I reboot or set it to suspend.
I will note the Error, when I can trigger it again.

Bit it for mceusb, and it count very fast.

And here is the error, that occurs:

Hope someone can help, when this make the IR stop working.

I have now tried to not do the Grub edit, mentioned here in the link.
So far so good.

So what I have done is:

Created a new rule
Code:
sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/90-mcewakeup.rules

Entered this in with the correct product and vendor id's (with the help of lsusb):
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0471", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0815" RUN+="/bin/sh -c 'echo enabled > /sys$env{DEVPATH}/../power/wakeup'"

I found the solution here.
In the first answer.

The error in post 11 is still an issue, but not as often. I now get if I reboot the system.
