well, I just browse the HTML source of the site (on most browsers: right click -> show source code) or in case there is a player embedded I fire up the developer tools of the browser and look at the JavaScript console and network monitor. Developer console can be opened in many browsers via F12. Sometimes you see the raw stream URL there.
In case it's not that obvious to detect you need to dig deeper and probably analyse JS code etc or use other sniffing tools

Stream already started, so it's not that.
tried putting the link in a strm file and just attempting to play the raw m3u8 to no avail.
