I'd say yes, It's been pretty stable for quite some time now. I'm not sure if it will be in upstream kodi code (that's more down to afedchin), but if not I suspect it will be in patches used by OE/LE/OSMC.
Not quiet sure if I understand your statement.(It depends on @afedchin to get it release on Kodi 17) ?
