Can someone please refer me to a remote that works out of the box with windows 8.1 pc's?

I have the latest kodi 15 isengard installed and have the Hauppauge 2250 tuner card which I love and it came with a rc6 remote and a ir receiver that plugs into the card itself but the customregis files and even the addons in kodi will not allow all the buttons to work like in mce...

Did you try running some android remote from your phone or a tablet ?
It is working straight and without any problem. It connects to your XBMC/Kodi via wifi and t is very easy to setup.

for Android phone :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai....xbmc.kore

for IOs phone:
https://itunes.apple.com/fr/app/official...80364?mt=8

Another one for android :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai....xmbc.kodi

And the most famous one :

I will suggest RC6 mce remote or FLIRC. I have tried both HP and Inteset mce remotes and they are really good. Inteset has back-lit buttons. Most of the buttons will work out of the box. You can easily configure the buttons. With FLIRC, you can use any of your existing remotes like TV, DVD remotes. Configuring flirc is also very easy.

Thank you. I am thinkin about getting the flirc.

I have no clue how to do any of these and the custom regis stuff conflicts with watching the TV and on the computer. I've tried every option

+1 for the Flirc. I have a few Motorola Nyxboards that I have been using for a long time. Decided to give the Flirc a go and man I could not be happier. Had a few issues at first, but once I got up on the Flirc forums, I got my minor issues resolved. Its a great little device.

ho yes you have to start kodi first.
But some times, phones can become a programmable ir remot control (yes , infrared).
My LG F6 can do that for instance and turn my tv on , but I don't use. Wifi remote is much more simple to control the mediacenter itself.

if your phone or tablet has an Infra red built in, you can use an Android app called ASmart Remote, it can work like a mce remote and work with a lot of IR receivers including Soundgraph for my own case
