Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows
So if I install version 17, I could setup MPC-HC as an external player and still use MADVR? No way to setup Dsplayer in 17?

Thanks

it's not possible to just install it. DS it's a part of Kodi. Need someone to adapt DSPlayer to v17 changes.

So the best option with using Kodi 17 is to setup mpc-hc with madvr as an external player?

Yes, if you insist on using madVR.

Well if I just use the video player in Kodi 17 will there be a huge loss in video quality compared to using madvr?

Depends on what you are doing with the video.

It depends on what your eyes think. I think the difference is substantial. You need a good graphics card, however. madVR is like a high quality video game in how it works.

I do have a good graphics card. I had been using madvr and dsplayer with Kodi, but now I am debating on weather to upgrade Kodi to version 17, but I would lose dsplayer if I do.

I am running two installations of Kodi: one portable; one DSPlayer.

I don't want to give up DSPlayer, so I do most of my viewing on it. It still plays local files and video add ons just fine.

I also have a portable installation for video addons that work exclusively with Kodi v17.

That's a pain, but it gives DSPlayer life by using two installations. I find I do most of my viewing with DSPlayer watching a couple of video add ons and mostly local files. The portable installation is reserved for a single video add on.

Eventually, in another year, I will be forced to go back to using MPC-HC as external player. That worked just fine, but it is a less polished experience than using DSPlayer.

I'd pay to have a dedicated DSPlayer developer, but so would many others.

Yup! Me too.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

Ok, I will try doing a separate installation so I could keep my dsplayer, and still upgrade to 17.
Thanks
