Ok, tried this out last night.  Disabled the setting in the hardware section of the Systems window.  rolled back the driver using DDU to 385.45 and then restarted the machine and let it set idle over night.  Turned it on this morning and checked the driver update log from the device manager and noticed that it auto updated to 388.13 again 15 minutes after I walked away from the machine for the night.  Like WTF how can I prevent this so I can just enjoy my HDR content?

I have it set up this way and it never updates graphic drivers on its own.

Thats exactly what I followed and still didn't work for me.

Edit: I'm going to try this (https://www.howtogeek.com/302595/how-to-...e-drivers/) procedure next as I'm rocking the Educational edition of Windows 10

Only problem is that Windows doesn't turn HDR off when done with the HDR file. So I have to do it myself.

HDR using MadVR works better with Nivia (driver 385.28 is a good choice, other wise windows will try to control the HDR switching, and messes it up).

No experience with AMD but, open MadVrR control panel (madHcCtrl), select Devices  (your device), select passthrough HDR content to the display, and tick send HDR metadata to the display.

Thank you.
Back on 385.69 and switching from HDR to SDR and vice versa works perfectly.

I didn't configure anything apart from enabling hardware decoding ("hardware decoder to use": DXVA2 copy-back, "device to use": automatic/GTX 1080) and choosing the correct "audio renderer" (Denon 4300) in the Kodi/Player/DSPlayer settings.
It was only the newer Nvida drivers messing it up by handing the HDR controls to Windows. Can't believe that MS still hasn't figured it out.

It's "funny". The very same happened to me. I now have a NVIDIA - Display - 10/27/2017 updated ready to install. I'll now try and see how to remove it. But this is really unacceptable behaviour. There's a specific setting and Windows is disregarding it. How annoying. Stare
