Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows

Could you please double check if 4:3 material displays correctly as 4:3 (and not sideways-stretched) when using Normal view mode in Kodi? Like I wrote previously, the stretching started happening to me with the latest DSPlayer build. Never happened before and never happens when playing local (from NAS) files. I have no clue what's suddenly triggering the zoom when streaming; at any rate madVR OSD correctly says 4:3.

Try play with DVDPlayer switch zoom to 4:3. Stop. Play with DSPlayer and see if normal view give correct result.

Hi Warner, I'll post this also here, maybe you'll have the chance to reply

I've seen from your posts and your (very good) guide that when there's not image upscaling (ex. 720p>1080p) you prefer to do not activate Superres in Chroma Upscaling but you prefer Finesharp in Image Enhancement, is because you do not think that SR in that case is visible/useful?

Another thing that really interest me is to understand the "real" difference between xbr-100 and 150, I could not find any comparison but just people preferring one or the other but without a real explanation of the reason.

UPDATE: Isengard DSPlayer 15.2

19 October 2015 (f273f06)
  • Update internal LavFilters to v0.66.27 (DSPlayer version)
  • Update internal XySubFilter to v3.1.0.746 (DSPlayer version)
  • Added madVR SuperRes "sharpness" and "use linear light" options
  • Added madVR "Move subtitles" option to set subtitles position
  • Improved support to http/https streaming contents handled by now with the internal Lav Splitter Source instead of UrlReader
  • Fixed an issue with subtitles that are not shown after download with streaming contents
  • Fixed internal DSPlayer profiles system for madVR that was not working with streaming contents
  • Merged with the official Isengard branch

Update internal LavFilters to v0.66.27 and XySubFilter to v3.1.0.746
as you already know there are a custom DSPlayer version for the internal filters, i don't know if there will be a new build for these filters in the next few days
anyway in future you can always download and replace the internal filters files placed in "<your path>\Kodi\system\players\dsplayer" with the special version for DSPlayer that you can find
in my forked repos https://github.com/aracnoz/LAVFilters/releases and https://github.com/aracnoz/xy-VSFilter/releases , i think that there should be an update from xysubfilter related to the font size
but i don't know for sure when this update will come out so i preferred to not wait to release this the final build

Added madVR options...
at moment i skipped again the full integration of zoom control options but i added some new important option to move subtitles on the blackbars or into the active area, and the new parameters Sharpness and Linear Light for SuperRes (Upscaling refinement)

Improved support to http/https streaming contents handled by now with the internal Lav Splitter Source instead of UrlReader
with this update DSPlayer now uses lav splitter source for streaming contents, in my case everythings seems fastest, more stable and usable than with previous UrlReader, also perform a seek it's not a problem anymore

Oldpoem - which version of NVidia drivers are you using? also, Lav 0.64 and MadVR 0.87.17?

It's really odd that depending on full screen VS Window mode I can get a broken or correct picture, and only in DSPlayer/MadVr.

I'm always on latest Nvidia Drivers and LAVFilters. MadVR 0.89.11.

So I installed this version last night after using Kodi/XMBC for years now on my HTPC. I could be a bit slow, or maybe it was because it was late, but I kept having an issue where the screen seemed zoomed in. I could fix the problem by toggling windowed/fullscreen mode back and forth. Is there any easier fix for this or is maybe something in my settings a bit wonky? Thanks.

Try play with DVDPlayer switch zoom to 4:3. Stop. Play with DSPlayer and see if normal view give correct result.

When selecting Play using... -> DVDPlayer, the stream launches in DSPlayer regardless.

For some reason with the latest DSPlayer + madVR the picture
a) doesn't even momentarily switch to 4:3 anymore (remains 16:9 throughout with the madVR OSD showing 16:9),
b) sometimes, but not always, remains locked at 4:3 if the stream begins with 4:3 and changes to 16:9 later.

Somehow I feel it's related to madVR's zoom functionality, even though it doesn't seem to matter if the black bar detection is enabled or not. Anyway, I have extremely limited time for testing right now, so I'll just accept something got broken and toggle zoom manually when needed.

All I know is everything worked fine up until a few weeks ago. Hopefully someone else can reproduce this with a http(s) stream that has changing aspect ratios.

So with the improved support of http streams, are the filters for NextPVR timeshift buffering needed anymore?

720p to 1080p requires image upscaling. Any resize that requires upscaling is best used with SuperRes. Otherwise, you are stuck with Image Enhancements, where I prefer FineSharp.

SuperRes chroma is a different algorithm than SuperRes luma and I don't like how it looks. Also, sharpening the chroma layer doesn't do a whole lot to image quality, so I skip this setting. You could try it yourself and let your eyes be the judge. There is no right or wrong answer. What I posted were my preferences.

I have lentoid installed here for hevc, what I need for work, using internal dsplayer settings...work hevc here but not with lentoid, maybe need change configure xml file.

I try this rule
PHP Code:
<rule filename=".*h265.*|.*H265.|.*x265.|.*X265.*|.*hevc.*|.*HEVC.*">
      <
source filter="lavsource_internal" />
      <
splitter filter="lavsplitter_internal" />
      <
video filter="lentoid_hevc_decoder" />
      <
audio filter="lavaudio_internal" />
      <
subs filter="xysubfilter_internal" />
    </
rule
Result...

Internal filters always use predefined mediaconfig_internal.xml which use internal lavfilters. I suggest you switch to using mediaconfig.xml / filterconfig.xml instead.

The code you used works fine as long as you type correctly and your hevc file has h265 or hevc in filename.

Also you have to add lentoid hevc decoder to your filterconfig xml too.

Do you know guid code for lentoid?

You can easily add it from kodi gui. Choosing filter configuration - add new filter - system filter list select filter you'd like to add and it would add necessary information required.

For NextPVR timeshift buffering, you have to use NextPVR filters.
