How can I disable/uninstall DVDPlayer completely?
No matter what I try (e.g. context menu -> play using...), Kodi launches DVDPlayer for the https stream of my video add-on. Strange thing is, Kodi log shows DVPlayer is the default player but context menu shows DSPlayer as default player.

You need to configure playercorefactory.xml. Unfortunately I'm not sitting at a machine where I could copy mine for you.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you
read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

EDIT2: See my follow-up post a couple of posts below.
Using DSPlayer as default used to work with a previous Kodi and/or video add-on version, without needing to tweak mediasconfig at all.
I tried but Kodi doesn't let me edit mediasconfig_internal.xml - I would presumably need to add "https" to the first rule that contains mkv etc. and uses xysubfilter and such. In the "regular" mediasconfig.xml that is supposed to be copied to userdata, there is no sign of xysubfilter etc., not even https. Only a http rule which for some reason doesn't contain any LAV filters.
EDIT: In short, I'm trying to get DSPlayer to launch as default player for https streams, using the internal LAV filters. Just don't know how to accomplish that.

They are files on a network share. But I don't have any errors from madVR.

Win 8.1, regular server with plenty of RAM and processing power.
No, I haven't. I'll try that too with LAV filters.
The bad thing is no information in logs, it makes it pretty much impossible to debug.

Please, post code available in your playercorefactory.xml file for I compare with native.
