PVR IPTV Simple Client Add-on - Takes too long to change channel
#1
Hi there,

I'm new on this forum and I've spend couple of hours searching the right answer to my problem but without any luck.

I bought Raspberry Pi 2 and installed the XBMC software in order to watch IPTV.

On this forum I found that the best add on for iptv (m3u list) is PVR IPTV Simple Client but it takes too long (around 15 seconds) to change the channel. The same list on the vlc player switches the channels instantaneously so I thought that I have to change something to the buffer on the add on, but as a beginner I can't find the settings.

Can someone please suggest better m3u add on for iptv or how to modify PVR IPTV simple client.

Thanks in advance.

This is not addon's issue. The PVR IPTV simple client only parces a m3u file and provides stream urls to the Kodi player. I suggest to you to ask about this on RPi forums.

I confirm the same issue starting with Kodi 14. Kodi 13.2 was the last release that didn't have this issue.

Instant channel (http stream) load or change on 13.2, up to 15 seconds delay on 14.x

Reproduced the issue on Mac OSX 64bit (13.2 vs 14.x), Openelec 4.0.7 vs 5.x.x x86_64 on Intel NUC and AMD Fusion, Openelec 4.2.1 vs 5.x.x on RPi.

Using http streams only, but the issue does not apply to all http streams. Would have to further investigate the stream encoding, expect a follow up soon.

Best regards

edit: here is video info for http stream with delay, log below (taken from Kodi 14.2)

edit 2:

here are logs for both types of streams from Xbmc 13.2:

log with streams that cause delay in Kodi 14.x, no delay in 13.2

log with streams that don't have delay in both 13.2 and 14.x

@hman there's already a ticket filed for it but there's no agreement yet on how it should be fixed. Ideally the servers you use need fixing.

That's right, but as I mentioned on the ticket that is not always possible. Streaming services like Grooveshark issue a kind of pre-authorised URL to a service which can't be used for http HEAD requests. Every access of the url other than read would invalidate the service. For this reason we need some mechanism to explicitly avoid HEAD requests.
But this mechanism should not be abused by services being too lazy to implement proper http protocols.

yes, could be an idea to have a flag for hostname ?
so we could have a default head request enabled, but if hostname is present into xml, can use explicit head request setting
