I'm unsure if Kodi still supports direct streams this way, but if it's in the wiki.. it must be.

Your issue is #4

You can't really added the stream to the library it doesn't contain a valid video file (http://kodi.wiki/view/Internet_video_and_audio_streams) but you should be able to see and click on the file (link) you have created if this file/folder is in one of the source folders, then using file-mode (video button) get the file/folder in focus and Kodi should attempt to stream your link. Best to have show all files toggled in the appearance setting.

thanks so much for trying to help me. i cannot really follow this or figure out to get it to work. i did go into appearance and toggle show all files but it didnt work. not sure how to get kodi to even see the strm file i created that i have sitting on my desktop. again i tried to do it through video tab and it didnt work and then i tried to add it as source in system file manager but in both cases it doesnt show.

EDIT

Ok I now got the strm file to show up. i wasnt adding the drive that was the problem. i was looking for the strm file to add which didnt show up until after i added the drive. however it didnt load Sad

i am basically looking to link cartoon network to stream within in Kodi.

thanks

It's been a long time since I updated or even tried my streams, links change a lot so it probably will not work anymore. Once you have seen the stream in filemode (yup the folder must be in your sources) and click it... if everything is good, you'll have Kodi streaming.

What is in my file for C=span whihc used to work. Check those links I left for more tips. There is/was an add-on called Livestreams that made this an easier routine with a supported community list, but alas like a lot of add-ons support slipped moons ago, but there still might be some effort still there... You'll probably have to google it. used to love streams and finding new ones, it was just a lot of work to keep them up.

I sued to have cons to these stream files with

Totally untested at this point.
