Thanks for sample. There is a test firmware here which fixes your file.
It would be useful if you could try it, and let me know if it fixes your problem DVDs and whether it causes any other issues.

Thanks for the research! How do I update my firmware? I can't seem to find a good tutorial on www.raspberrypi.org.

Click on the link in my post. Download the zip file and extract the files to boot directory of your sdcard.

You the man! It took some time and you had to go as deep as the firmware, but it works! Am listening now the the 70's Quadraphonic Parsons mix of my favourite Dark Side album that wouldn't play either, but now it does. Smile

Unfortunately the resume function of Kodi crashes w/ this firmware version (you see a still picture of the position where the video should start and you canonly press "5 sec. fwd" to force the video to start playing from the beginning). Is there a place where I can download the latest FW in case I don't want to watch the troublesome DVD's and want the resume functionality back?

You can download latest firmware here.

What do you mean by resume? Suspend/resume? Pause/resume? "Play from 00:24"?

Sorry for the confusion. What I meant is when you watch a movie (say: movie01), press 'stop' and after that (the next day for instance) you watch something else (say: movie02). When you remember that you forgot to watch the end of movie01 and select movie01 again (i.e. press Enter) then Kodi asks if you want to resume from the point where you left off yesterday (say: 1 hour and 15 minutes). If you choose 'Yes', then Kodi "resumes" playing the movie from where you left off. That's what I meant. And that doesn't work anymore.

Anyway, thanks for the link to the latest firmware. In the OSMC topic about this Sam Nazarko says that a new firmware will be available w/ the next update to Kodi version 'Isengard'. Will the firmware be without both flaws mentioned here (i.e. DVD stopping play after 20 sec or broken resume function)?

Updated my OSMC version to one that has Kodi 15 code name 'Isengard'. Same problem again w/ certain DVD's that hang adter a second or 20. Downgraded the FW of my Pi tot the one posted by Popcornmix and probs are mostly gone, except for some vireo's that do not resume (see my replies above in this topic). See also the OSMC forum.

It only happens on some files. I don't have the files anymore on which it happened. So we can't test it anymore. However, as Popcornmix pointed out, the firmware wasn't updated at some point in time for nothing...

Shouldn't this DVD/firmware thing be in a Wiki somewhere for everybody?

Does that mean it will be included in an OSMC update some day?

Assuming testing is positive, yes.
