Android Nvidia Shield Android TV (Updated Jan 26 2017 - 5.0 update)

Ummm there was nothing the kodi team could do until nvidia opened up the api to allow it...

My bad. I thought it was happening already on other android platforms. Didn't realize Kodi had to be specifically updated for Shield.
Am I right to assume I can set Kodi to PCM so the decoding happens before it hits my receiver? It may not say DTS-HD on my receiver but it should pass the decoded lossless audio right?

Kodi does it but not on the Shield yet

DD+, TrueHD and others (so all but "simple" Dobly Digital / ac3) is already decoded and send as PCM.
DTS-HD always has a "normal" DTS stream, which is send if you enable DTS passthrough. If you disable DTS passthrough and enable 8 channel DTS decoding all DTS will be decoded and send as PCM.

Depending on how your "home network" content is served, you could use external players like MX Player, which Kodi will start to play the video. This does not work with smb though. MX Player can pass through HD Audio.

For some reason last two days re-fresh rate switching stopped working.
I updated to beta 1 this morning but no difference.

Maybe the shield rebooted while the TV was off. Reboot it with TV on.

You could also use Kore or yatse to instruct the kodi to play music to your avr.

UPNP is supported by my AVR, but it is something I would like to avoid because I would prefer to stay with a unique remote control (WAF...).

Can you explain a bit more your second point (I'm using Yatse)?

Thanks for your answer!

Thanks that fixed it.

I understand that the shield now passes through lossless audio formats like DTS-HD and Dolby True HD but I believe that is only for the native video player. Does anyone know when/if Kodi will be updated to pass through those formats?
Is there a way around it so you I can stream (home network) video with lossless codecs from Kodi on the Shield?
Thanks

Kodi 17 will do DTS-HD and Dolby True HD is the scuttlebutt i heard

I was really hoping they would put this in 16 since the same update for the Shield that provided the proper 24Hz support provided hi-def pass-through and they fixed that a couple months ago. This one issue is the only thing keeping me from replacing my HTPC with the Shield.

Heh... Schedule conflict. Nvidia implemented HD audio at the same time we decided on a major rewrite of our player, which will come in 17...

How to open On-Screen Video Diagnostic (Codecinfo: http://kodi.wiki/view/Codecinfo) ? Tried to assign key with (Add-on:Keymap Editor: http://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Keymap_Editor), no luck, seems to not work at all.

Well bumper, no 5.1 still I see. Audio is playing, but appears to be playing in stereo only. No sound out of rear speakers.

Update: Whoops, my fault. Just realized I was using ARC, which is stereo only sadly. So lame. Shield is not working via HDMI on my Blu-ray player at the moment.

At least 24p seems to be working correctly.

But it's pass-through. Is it really that hard to implement? Isn't it just a change to the options screen based on the hardware ID?

Nope. Android passthrough is different than on all the other Kodi platforms. For the techies, Android wants raw passthrough while the other platforms want IEC61937.
