Kodi vs Kodi/Embly Server
#1
Hi guys,

Newbie here....I was running Emby/Mediabrowser with the Emby/Mediabrowser server on a separate WHS machine. I understand with Medibrowser/Emby, server made it easy to get metadata and add other addons with Emby.

I am thinking of just going entirely Kodi to play my fullrate mkvs. My question is what does the Emby pull-in for Kodi buy me versus just uninstalling Embly Server and going full Kodi implementation?

Kodi pulls metadata and has the addon ability, correct? Am I missing something?

Kodi does pull metadata and has plenty of addons (although it would pay to chack it has the ones you want.)

Emby advantage is

1. centralised server so you get the same metadata on all kodi clients
2. transcoding ability for lower power/lower bandwidth clients
3. easy to use from outside your home on, eg your phone/tablet on the train in to work

But I don't use it myself, and there is no need to if you don't need 2 & 3.
