@Koying not really related to kodi but when i went to upgrade kodi to v18 the install was greyed out in all the file explorers i use but hitting action menu then going back ungreys install then you can click and it installs fine... ohh whilst i got you.. v18 runs ok but resume is kinda weird if you stop playback and leave the directiory then go back in play for abit then stop playback then leave directory again and go back in it uses the first resume point it doesnt seem to update on last stop...

Nougat somehow breaks app sideloading via USB and the popular file managers. Your workaround via ACTION MENU is interesting. Will try that. I used the `adb install` command which also still works for sideloading apps via network connection.
Reply
yeah just bring up the screen that shows install greyed out and click action menu then action menu again to exit out and youll see install is ungreyed Smile i did some research they upped security somehow but it seems kind of broken since even when you have allow unknown sources its greyed out so i guess its a bug and theyll fix it for 7.0.1, another fix was to unselect allow unknown sources and reselect it again but that didnt work for me. so ill just use the action menu workaround. i never adb'd before lol

Hi, Kodi sees my hard drive as "Volume". I need to modify that bad name. How can I modify that word please? Thanks

Did you ever get an answer/ fix this? I’m having the same problem. In terms of which add ons - all of them - the default kodi repoint even there. It was downloaded from google play store too, so should be legit

I got a reply but not in this forum. I solved my problem when I connected the hard drive in my PC, then I renomed that "volume".

Hi, I own a Sony TV KD-65X8509C 65 "and I use to watch in my UHD videos made by me with Nvidia Shield TV. I can't adjust the colors in the right and personal way. I have been doing video editing for a lifetime and lately I am doing video only in UHD watching them with Kodi.
When I use Nvidia Shield TV and I'm watching a video with Kodi, then I take the TV remote control to set the brightness and colors, I have a problem. Although if I put the Brightness slider at 1, I see very bright images, too. Then if I put it at 0, I see them too bright anyway. Maybe I should put -4 or -5 to get the right brightness. Why is this happening to me?
Unfortunately I don't have much experience in this regard, in fact I can only see crap with the hardware that I have with Kodi.
Can someone help me to be able to set the colors of the TV with Nvidia Shield TV?

What display mode is your Sony TV configured for for the HDMI input you are using for your nVidia Shield TV?

Have you calibrated that input with test images playing on the Shield TV?

That will let you correctly set black levels, white levels, colour saturation, sharpness etc. (Also make sure to switch ALL digital processing - noise reduction, reality creation, contrast enhancement, live colour, motion flow etc. OFF for the clearest, most neutral and transparent picture).  On many Sony TVs these settings act on a 'per input' basis (so each HDMI input, internal Tuner or Android App will have different settings) and some settings can be different for HDR and SDR sources. (i.e. you can set different personal settings for HDR and SDR from the same source)

Also beware that most TVs have a default of a very blue white point.  On a Sony you may find Warm 1 or one of the 'Pro' settings gets you closer to the normal Illuminant D/6500K white colour temperature.

Dear noggin, thanks for your help and happy Easter. I configured my USB port of myTV with "Standard format". It is the USB No. 3. I use Lumix GH5 to take my videos, I make UHD videos 50p 8bit. In the "Advanced format" I see 10bit.
I attach 3 pics.

I'm sorry for my inexperience but I don't even know what the test images is.

I chose warm option but it is .only slightly warm and that's what i like. Then Ichose a Personal and I create neutral colors.

I think my biggest problems are Nvidia Shield TV calibration or Kobi calibration. In fact when I put my videos on the USB port and I chhose that default software (not Kodi), they pretty well.

PS: out of curiosity: To configure the colors and brightness of the Nvidia Shield TV, while I watch my video with Kodi, I use the original Sony TV remote control and the same panel with wich I use on the Sony TV but I check the sliders that select the amount of color and brightness, etc. are positioned very differently than on TV. This means that different settings have to be made on Nvidia Shield TV than on the Sony TV. Quite right?

OK - you are using HDMI input 3. That will probably (*) have it's own SDR and HDR picture settings just for that input, which are not related to the picture settings of the other inputs, your DVB TV tuner, or any Android TV apps etc.

The important thing is to go through all the settings and disable all the nasty processing etc.

Test images are test sequences that you use to adjust brightness, contrast, black level, gamma, saturation (aka colour) etc. to ensure that your TV is displaying pictures correctly. Without them you are just 'adjusting by eye' which is never a great idea.

I'd suggest reading up a bit on TV calibration and set-up to get a better understanding as to how you should configure your display to be as neutral as possible (so that you see the material you have shot, edited and graded as accurately as possible)
Quote:I chose warm option but it is .only slightly warm and that's what i like. Then Ichose a Personal and I create neutral colors

Ah - 'like' is always dangerous. If you are watching material you edited yourself, then you want that displayed as correctly as possible (if you don't like 'the look' of your material, you can then alter the way you edit and grade it)
Quote:I think my biggest problems are Nvidia Shield TV calibration or Kobi calibration. In fact when I put my videos on the USB port and I chhose that default software (not Kodi), they pretty well.
Kodi shouldn't require any calibration - that's only really needed for 'edge case' examples (where there are known issues you need to compensate for). It may require some set-up - but not calibration.

Your Shield TV has a number of options for output - and they can interact with Kodi.

Do you watch any Rec 2020 material - or is all your material you watch Rec 709?

I use a camera to take videos. I use Lumix GH5 and I think it rec. in Rec 709. Anyway I put these settings in the Menu: 4K 8bit 150M 50p.

Yes - chances are you are shooting Rec 709 3840x2160p50 8-bit in either 4:2:2 or 4:2:0. I assume you then take this material into FCPX, Prem Pro, Avid Media Composer or Davinci Resolve and make sure it is also seen as Rec 709 in those packages for grading?

Then you export as a 3840x2160p50 8-bit Rec 709 4:2:0 h.264/AVC or h.265/HEVC file to play on the Nvidia Shield TV?

If so I'd ensure the Nvidia Shield TV is configured for Rec 709 output in its HDMI settings, and unless you also use the Shield to watch other video material (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ etc.) that is Rec 2020, I'd also probably disable colour gamut switching.
