I am currently using iptv simple client to view a M3u8 stream. The problem is I am unable to pause or record this stream as the pause button is grayed out. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

It is simply not supported in IPTV Simple Client. Kodi itself does not do any recording, and that is all handled by the backend software, but for IPTV Simple Client there really isn't a backend. It's just sort of a "fake" PVR client.

Many thanks for your explanation. In light of this do you have any idea how to get this working? What could I used instead of IPTV Simple client for the backend and how would I go about setting this up?

It does not really help as I don't have a dedicated device as such. The only thing I want to do do is load the following stream which is on my network:

http://192.168.1.101:55555/httpChannels.m3u8

IPTV simple client does this perfectly but as I say I can't pause with it. All the backends I have looked at seem to have complicated settings which don't apply. All I wan to do is load this stream and be able to pause live tv - any ideas?
