15 betas audio takes 1 second before playing (Open file or resume from pause)
#1
14.2 doesn't have this issue for me. I am not sure about older XBMC builds as I just started using the program a week or 2 ago.

I have noticed this with 2 separate Windows 7 x64 computers. (A desktop connected to a TV with VGA and standard headphone type audio jack as well as a laptop with everything integrated.)

I tried v15 beta 1 and beta 2 and a couple of the nightly builds and have a small annoyance with audio. Anytime I open a new video or pause and then unpause a playing video there is like 1 second of silence before the audio starts playing. It isn't the end of the world, but it bugs me.

I tried searching for the issue and found several really old posts from people with various solutions. The most common fix was to enable the streamsilence option in advancedsettings. That obviously doesn't work since it is a deprecated option. I tried playing with the audio keep alive settings and that made no difference. I tried off, always and 1 minute.

I am experiencing the same issue. this has only started with the v15 betas. I'm not sure it's quite a second of unplayed audio although i have no real way to measure it. It happens both with videos played from my library and on youtube videos. It's particularly frustrating with videos which instantly begin with dialogue (almost all youtube videos). I too have been searching for some sort of answer and this thread is the first that i've been able to find with the same problem[/align]

Yea, I didn't measure the delay. That was only an estimate. Thanks for the confirmation that I am not the only one seeing this. For the moment I am just ignoring it since it isn't too bad, just a little annoying.

Nobody has seen your Debug Log ... therefore nobody answers ...
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

This is now under Audio Settings -> Keep Audio alive. Set it to 60 seconds.

The other option is gone since at least two releases. If it does not help the issue is different. With this option set the audio is constantly kept alive. It rather sounds like shitty network, NAS that needs to wakeup or insane "prebuffer" settings. Your Debug Log will tell. Don't cut it.

Yes, I have tried changing that setting. I tried Always, off and 1 minute. All 3 gave the same result.

If that 1 second pause before playing videos or unpausing is just how it is that is fine. I was just wondering of other people noticed it too and apparently Snood did as well.

For ease of use I just did a clean install to Kodi 15 folder, renamed my old AppData so this is on a clean default profile. All I did was enable debug and add 1 folder for a test source.
Tested on several different video sources: avi/mkv/mp4/iso for xvid/h.264/dvd images 720p/1080p/400p.

The issue happens on 15b1, 15b2 and I would say at least 5 nightlies I have tried. 14.2 does not do it. Audio starts right away on new file open or resuming from pause.

Happens on my desktop and my laptop.

DVI to 24" LG IPS236 LED LCD
VGA and 3.5mm headphone type cable to Samsung 53"? fluorescent LCD
(Maybe I should try an HDMI cable. Using the VGA / analogue audio because this motherboard won't output DVI and HDMI at the same time.)

Turn of DXVA, please ... and retry.

Perhaps some more information. Audio is muted on start until "sync" is behaving under a certain threshold. On old versions (14.2) audio just changed the global clock, which sucked heavily. So this time, we start audio when everything is fine. If that needs one second on your system, e.g. DXVA-HD initialization fail and resetup of renderer, clearing of buffers and playback start, then it is like that.

Here's my debug log: Debug loig

My example uses a youtube video, i paused and resumed playback with the audio delay happening both at the beginning of the video and after the pause. I tried turning off XDVA and got perhaps marginally better results but basically the delay was still there. it's difficult to perceive the difference by ear.

If this delay needs to happen with this change you talked about, can the video not also be delayed so everything begins at the same time?

I played around with every setting I could and could never get it to not be there. (DXVA, hardware vs. software, directsound vs. WASAPI, sync to display, adjust refresh rate, full screen window vs. true full screen, audio output config, audio keep device alive ...)

Also, it seemed to be that the 15 betas were OOS by a little bit. In my case it seemed like I needed to set the audio offset 2 - 3 steps to the negative. I think it was .025 ms each step. To me it seemed more like I needed 2.5 steps offset, but could only choose 2 or 3.

For me I went back to 14.2 for now.

I can confirm this in OS X and Android as well. I will post some logs shortly.

Also, moving thread to "OS independent" sub-forum.

Thanks for confirming this. I was starting to think I was crazy since only 1 other person seemed to notice.

Same here with all 15 versions (betas, nightly, rc1).
It doesn't happen on previous version (xbmc 12-13, kodi 14-14.2).
I tried all the settings suggested here but nothing solve it.
I have windows 10 x64, core i5 1st generation, nvidia quadro fx 1800m (1gb, dedicated, latest driver from nvidia), 2gb ram and IDT high definition audio. It's a laptop.
Tried also on windows 7 x64 and it´s the same.

Updated to RC2 and the problem persists.
