HTPC:
Zotac ZBOX HD ID33-BR
Link to specs: http://www.zotac.com/in/products/mini-pc...tions.html

NVIDIA Driver version: 341.44

Per Device Manager:
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
Driver Date: 11/28/2013
Driver Version: 1.3.30.1

TV > Soundbar via both HDMI and Optical (soundbar claims ARC (Audio Return Channel) works, as does my TV, yet no sound occurs so I'm sticking with the Optical for now)
TV > HTPC via HDMI

The issue:
I don't remember this happening as often when running XBMC 13, maybe even 14. When I select different movies or TV shows, regardless of how I ripped the media (XVID, x264, etc.) the audio will disappear completely, even the navigation sounds. They return when I cycle through the inputs on the soundbar and come back to Optical. Every TV episode I watch, every movie I watch requires I cycle through the audio inputs to get the sound to start working again.

I've tried bypassing the TV and hooking the HTPC > Soundbar via Optical and it has the same issue.

Changing normal over-the-antennae TV channels I do not have this issue. Watching premium apps like Netflix / Hulu through the soundbar this also does not happen.

I've tried various Pass-Through settings, removing the NVIDIA audio driver and running the Realtek HD Audio Driver, but no luck.

In the attached log I:
- started Kodi
- enabled detailed audio debugging logs
- started to watch Shrek Forever After (audio did not work)
- stopped Shrek Forever After
- started Shrek the Third (audio did not work)
- stopped Shrek the Thrid
- started Shrek the Third and still no audio, so I cycled through inputs on my soundbar till the sound started working
- stopped Shrek the Third
- exited Kodi
- came here to post.

Anyone willing and able to look at the log and provide any suggestions on what could be the cause?

IGNORE THIS
I tried the audio file outside of KODI (using VLC) and it has the same issue, which means it has to either be the audio driver or the soundbar. I understand if the issue is out of scope but if anyone has any troubleshooting steps, let me know.
IGNORE THIS

I played around with it some more, and the audio issue only occurs AFTER watching a show in KODI. If I restart the computer, I can start 20 different movies in VLC without any audio issues. I start up KODI and start one or two shows, then it starts again. I exit KODI, cycle through the audio inputs on my soundbar, and I can continue watching many videos in VLC without audio issues.

Could this be due to the audio encoder/decoder add-ons during KODI install? Any way to manually uninstall just those, or do I have to wipe out KODI completely?

I solved it.
KODI > SETTINGS > SYSTEM > AUDIO OUTPUT > OUTPUT CONFIGURATION> set to FIXED. I had it set to BEST MATCH.
