Audio drops if Enable Passthru is enabled
#1
Hello Everyone
I have a zidoo x1 box, based on Allwiner H3, android 4.4.2. The box is listed as fully suported on kodi's wiki page.
Video playback is ok, but if you enble audio passthru, the audio stream send to receiver drops every 1 to 2 seconds for a 0,5 seconds and then it's back. My receiver is an Yamaha.
If you disable audio passthru, it will output stereo, without any issue. I'm playing files from a NAS
On the same system, the same files are played ok with the MXPLAYER, or the TVDvideo player that comes with Zidoo ( audio is send as DTS or Dolby to the receiver, video and audio in sync)
The modified Kodi that comes with the zidoo player will play audio fine, with passthry enabled, however video with sutter every 2 seconds.
My tests so far:
Kodi 14.2 - Audio Passthru enabled- It will output only stereo
Kodi 15.0 - Audio Passthry enabled- It will output Dolby or DTS corectly, but audio drops every second
Kodi 15.1- Same as above (15.0)
SPMC 15- Pink noise on audio output

Any help on it?
Thanks

I have the same issue on a Minix NEO X7 since upgrading to Kodi v15. A little more information in my original post below but it seems to me that some change made for V15 is responsible.

Similar problem
Audio Passthru drops in and out every few seconds

Minix Neo X7
HDMI bitstream setting or SPIDF

Problem is with Kodi 15.0 and 15.1
as other builtin players will handle the 5,1 passthru
but not the associated 1080p video Sad

This used to work in the earlier XMBC days

Please, someone from the Kodi team can take a look at this? It seems that the issue is not related to one box and one chipset. Logs have been provided, if you need additional info I can help you with tests and logs..

Hello everyone,

I have the same problem, my hardware is a I68G Android lollipop 5.1 platform with Rockchip RK3368 Cotex-A53 Octa Core 64-bit CPU.
I am using Isengard Kodi (just downloaded from play store).
Kodi is connected via HDMI to an Onkyo decoder.

I experienced the issue on MKV files containing DTS audio, the passthrough works (DTS indicator is lit on the decoder) but i have this missing audio issue (kind of 0.5 secs silence every 3 seconds of good audio). No issues on the video playback.
I configured Kodi following this guide: http://kodi.wiki/view/Audio_quickstart_guide (AVR HDMI profiles).

I tried to select both "Defaul device" or "HDMI Bitstream" in the Android sound settings with no change in the results.
Actually, the only difference from the tutorials i read is about the selection of Audio Output Device and Passthrough device. In my case, even if i change the Android sound setting, both this options are greyed out and i cannot modify them. The value is stuck to "android, audiotrack".
I don't know if you guys have the same value and if this can be the cause of the problem.

I am available to testing and providing logs.

Reposted from my thread as more replies here for the same issue.

I recently upgraded to Kodi v15 and at the same time I upgraded my Minix NEO X7 to the latest OS & firmware Kitkat 240.
My Minix box is connected to a Denon HT receiver via HDMI which is in turn connected via HDMI to my Samsung TV.

It was all working fine beforehand but since the upgrades I keep getting 1 or 2 sec audio dropouts every 4 secs or so on any Passthrough audio.
When I turn passthrough off it works fine but used the Receivers processor to convert the audio to a PLII Cinema program; not as good.

I have managed to resolve the issue by returning to the latest Minix version of Kodi which seems to be base don an older version of Kodi.
It doesn't suffer the dropout issue but I would still be interested to know if there is a solution for using Kodi v15?

Hi!

I have the same problems, running an rk3066-box. It used to work on 14 using SPMC and a patched version of libmedia, so I know it is not my box being too slow.
I too have dropouts every few seconds on Passthrough, at least Dolby Digital, I haven't tried any DTS material.

Hope there is a way to fix this.

I can post logs, If someone tells me how to find them Smile
