Is this search on the left side supposed to do anything?

It doesn't really find anything and if it does, it's mostly weird results.

Does this search function have any documentation?

Can I use partial string or REGEX in this search?

Actually, I don't even get this to work properly.

It finds some results and some not.

What needs to be done, before this works as expected?

Is it something else than to update music library and update video library?

I really find no pattern in what it actually returns as results.

I think files need to be in library before they are searchable via Kodi.

If I go into my music library, then click on "Songs" and I see a song called "01. Auricular - schaukelstuhl".

If I now search for "auri", I get 2 artists named "Auricular", 3 albums from "Auricular" and one song called "Centauri Pasta"; the damn schaukelstuhl track is not there.

If I search for "uricu", I get 2 artists like above, then the 3 albums and no songs, which is correct, cause "Centauri Pasta" is not Auricular.

Anyways, none of these results lists schaukelstuhl and I don't understand why?

It's obviously in the library.

Also a debug log would help.

What I do here in this debug.log, is that I first search for "uricu", which doesn't find the schaukelstuhl song. I then go into the library and play the Schaukelstuhl song and then I retrieve information on the file.

The log doesn't mention what it returns as search results.

Any pointer as to how I can do that?

I see that if I go into the "Artists" that this search finds, I find schaukelstuhl two levels deep in there, but WTF?

Why doesn't it list the song in the "Song" section?

This gets more and more retarded.

ok, I figured it out.

If I search for "schau", it finds the song.

If I search for an artist name, I have to find all the search results for that artist inside the Artist section.

I feel uneasy with how this works, but atleast now I get it.

I was a little confused, as I'm new to Kodi and also that it seems I've got thousands of files that are not being picked up by kodi, namely files that lacks metadata, like *.flv files.

It also cannot search filename, of course.

Well, anyway, thanks for the help.
