FM Radio Support
#1
I'd like to eventually, use XBMC as the UI for my carputer project. However, the one thing that's missing is built-in support for an FM card. I was thinking of using my old Happauge card or some other type of FM card. If anyone would like to take up this cause (either built-in or as a plug-in), I will be more than happy to help test it out.

Thanks.

surely there must be daemon that can provide the fm channels in a common format (say, shoutcast). there is absolutely no reason for having support for this inside xbmc

Sure, it would be great to be able to use what's already there. No reason in trying to reinvent the wheel. The questions is "how"? Hence my posting here to see what can and can't be done.

Thanks.

Something similar to this concept, but for FM radio => http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=28918
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.

I suppose something like that is more or less what I'm looking for. Obviously for the car, unless I hook up an OTA receiver, I won't have a need for all of the TV options. What would be nice would be the option to enable\disable\hide the plugins sort of how the MediaStream skin and the GBPVR project hide things. And while GBPVR has some very interesting options, running on Windows is something that I am not interested in. There are other applications that I want to run on the carpurter that only run on Linux.

Thanks for the link, Gamester. I'll certainly keep an eye on that project.

Question
Are there any plans and is anyone interested in AM/FM live radio on XBMC? I think it would be another cool feature.

This device works on both mac and pc. Im not sure what format it streams in, but is something like this doable for xbmc?

All of the iHeart Radio stations are available for streaming via XBMC.

This is essentially every FM Station in the US.

A quick search on youtube for XBMC iHeart brings up a short tutorial on how to do it.

Hehe ... reviving a four year old thread. Unless the OP's car and carputer are parked inside his garage or near a WiFi hotspot somewhere, this is going to burn up his mobile plan minutes. Better to simply turn on the car radio while motoring about. Wink

BTW, are you a shill for this service? Every single one of your posts to date have been on this same subject.

Perhaps it's possible with a TV-Card which support FM Radio via the PVR Plugin (never try this, but perhaps it work)
