Linux Vivid 3.19.0-30 kernel breaks broadwell vaapi?
#1
I don't know if this is an Ubuntu issue, a Kodi issue, or something I'm doing wrong.

Since updating my broadwell nuc5i3ryh from vivid kernel 3.19.0-28 to 3.19.0-30 my videos in kodi are now all black.

If I hit 'info' on my remote (I don't know the kbd key), I get the elapsed time and other decorations, but the video content is all black.

If I disable vaapi acceleration in kodi, the problem goes away.

I've submitted this as an ubuntu bug, but curious if anyone else is seeing this behaviour.

Does it help if you disable "Prefer VAAPI Render Method"? I think the broke the VAAPI rendering with this kernel change. So mplayer and also mpv with vaapi rendering should be affected.

Their comparison with VLC on the bug tracker is not funny and in no way comparably as VLC only uses the decoder and renders by itself ...
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Good call - disabling "Prefer VAAPI Render Method" does make the problem go away.
