Linux Kodi 15.2 no audio option (greyed out)

Thumbs Down
Good day forums,

I've just installed Kodi 15.2 from on Jessie, from the Debian backports repo.

When I play a video I have no sound, and I have no audio option in settings - it's greyed out. What can I do about this? Are there missing packages? I have also installed all the dependencies from the Linux install docs, just in case.

I'm using an oldish Intel atom board with HDMI out. Audio worked fine on v13 XBMC before my upgrade.

Cheers!

We don't support debian's patched version, but without a Debug Log even less can be done for you.

When kodi does not find Audio devices - you got a configuration issue on your system.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

So the glaring issue in my kodi.log is "ERROR: PulseAudio: Failed to connect to context". Pulseaudio was never required previously - is it now?

Further down I note that "NOTICE: Default Audio Player: paplayer". Which isn't installed.

I'm also interested to know what exactly the Debian team have done to Kodi. Normally they just package software.. Can you point me at anything interesting?

It is not ... it just tells: There is no PA running. It will fallback on ALSA then.

Post your Debug Log - or I refuse to answer anything else.

Also post: aplay -l | pastebinit

apt-get source kodi
then examine the debian/patches dir

You kodi user has not rights to enumerate audio. It is most likely not in the audio group.

Can you point me to which line tells you this? Thanks

I added my kodi user to the audio group and all is well. Thanks fritsch.

If it is not - add it also to the video group :-)
