Solved ZBox ID84 and Digital Audio / spdif on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty / Kodi 15.02
#1
hi,

I just recently upgraded my Ubuntu version to 14.04 Trusty on my Zotac Zbox ID84 and also updated to Kodi 15.2.

Unfortunately I am now unable to get any digital audio to work.

I searched the net for quite some time now but it seems I am stuck here.

aplay -l gives me this result:
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I need to get spdif / optical output working.

Could anybody please give me some help with the audio debugging?

Thanks in advance!

Debug Log as always ...
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Lol, sorry - you run version 12.2 from 2012 - this is not not supported anymore. Please use the Ubuntu ppa to install current 15.2 version.

Oh, sorry, my bad, it seems the log uploader used one of the old xbmc logs.

I provided a new logfile on pastebin: http://pastebin.com/RftZbH1v
I configured the debugger to audio related specific information.

I removed some private information and lots of musicdb files which should not be of any interest.
You can now see that it's kodi 15.2 and ubuntu 14.04.

Right now, I have to run alsamixer every time I restart kodi to unmute the spdif device.

Thanks for any further help!

You are running pulseaudio. See our wiki on howto use it for ac3, DTS or howto bypass it to use alsa.

Thanks alot! I had just stopped pulse and switched to alsa while you were answering and now it's working - without any additional config to any alsa-config files or anything.

Thanks alot for your quick support, fritsch!
