SiliconDust HDHomeRun Networked Digital Cable TV / HDTV Tuner support built-into XBMC
The HDHomeRun guys are working on a DVR backend solution.

When that's available I'm sure (or at least I'm hoping) that a PVR client will be developed for Kodi as well.

In case you have missed it; there is an independently developed native PVR client addon for HDHomeRun available here and it is showing great potential even though it is still in early development:

http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=246658

The above linked PVR client addon does not support recording yet but the founding developer (zcsizmadia) says that a record to disk function could technically be added to it:

This native PVR client addon for HDHomeRun is open source and available in the Kodi repository since a month back and as such should come as part of the Kodi 16.0 (Jarvis) release.

SiliconDust have unfortunatly not yet said that they will make a native Kodi PVR client addon for HDHomeRun, or support the independently developed one mentioned above.

Without such a PVR client addon for HDHomeRun you will not get native PVR or Live TV integration with Kodi, and instead you have to rely on the seperate Python Script based addons.

Just a heads up for anyone upgrading to Jarvis, the built-in support for older HDHomeRun units was removed so be prepared to setup a PVR backend or buy new hardware if wish to use this version.

I suspect there will be several confused users once Jarvis goes final and more people start upgrading to find that their tuners no longer function.

For those that do upgrade to the new HDHR Connect with DLNA, STRM files with the DLNA link will work. In the form of:
Code:
http://192.168.1.119:5004/auto/v11.1

I adapted some bash code I found on github that did the old format and made it output the new format: https://github.com/bonelifer/hdhomerun_dlna_strm

I have an M8S 812 running Android 4.4.2 and Kodi 15.2. The HRHD3-US tuner which is the older and now unsupported version of HDHomeRun works on my PC but the TVbox does not see the tuner. The TVbox can connect to my network as I have played files that are on my NAS.

So far I have not found how to make the TVbox and tuner work together. What needs to be done?

Cheers,
Clive

Hi,

The NextPVR open source PVR program does connect to the HDHR3-US --- I just installed it on my windows 10 machine. However, I don't think it can be ported to Android or Linux.

Kodi has a NextPVR interface built into it, and it works seamlessly..

It is strange, but the company that makes the HDHomerun devices has also produced a PVR program, but for some reason has chosen not to support the older models of the HDHomerun, like the HDHR3-US. Their PVR program only works with the later models that have UPNP functionality.

You might check out the Emby application. I believe they are trying to support the older HDHomerun devices. However, there are two components -- a server application that has to run on a windows or linux based machine or NAS, and a viewing app that allows you to access the media via the server program. They do make a viewing app for android, so you could run that on your android based TV box if you wanted to. However, you have to pay to use the DVR functions and I think the android app has to be purchased, or it is bundled with their "premier" service which includes the DVR functionality..

I hope this helps,

Good Luck,

Philip
