I never said alternatives were non-viable. I've always been a huge fan of HardKernel's stuff, including the ODROID-C2. Xiamoni also seems to make a good S905 box (and I ordered one of their nice Bluetooth remotes to try out).
The thing that sets me off in this thread is not alternatives, but that people try to compare the super-cheaps with WeTek when WeTek's price reflects more than the hardware itself. That is all. When you make a specific point about the WeTek price in comparison to some unlicensed, uncertified, unsupported box, I'm going to point out your error.
If you don't need the DRM support or the software support, then I am not offended at all if you want to buy a super-cheap box. There is no one-size-fits-all, and I know that very well.
