Kodi seems like it would be a very heavy hammer for creating a homebrew digital photo frame.

Here is another solution:https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=331818.  search for samba is broken or the like.

No I'm not positive of the syntax; I saved mine as favorite, it now shows in my file browser as 192.168.1.212.

You can now activate nfs in Windows 10 in system>control panel>Programs and Features>turn windows features on or off>check the nfs box.  Then create an exports file in /etc.

Mine contains this line:  /mnt/pihdd 192.168.1.0/24(rw,no_subtree_check,async,insecure)  That gives permission to any of my network devices to explore and rw my HDD, your paranoia level may vary.

I don't have OSMC, I don't know how nfs works on it,this works on Raspbianan.

I thought maybe you had some good advice since you were so quick telling me my current solution was/is overkill but apparently that wasn't the case.
