LG tablet and SMB shares
#1
Originally, I couldn't find the server at all from the tablet. None of the shares were showing up for it at all.
Did some homework, got SMB enabled on the server.

I can access the directories through ES Explorer now, so I know that's working.
Android Kodi 15.2 will not find the server using SMB.

So, I enabled UPNP on the server.
Android Kodi can see the server now via UPNP, and I can browse to dirs, but adding the path does not bring up the option to assign a type so that the library can find it.
I can go under Videos-Files and find the added path there, and movies will play ok.

How can I get this to browse to the movies directory on server and have the Movies option be added to the home screen?

Remarkably unhelpful. I have been through the wiki and forums, and am not a new user.

I have files, playlists and video add ons.
I chose files, I have add videos, I select the upnp server, I select the directory.
I do not get the set content window.

As a result, I have no library entries, and no Movies option on the home screen.

You can't set content on a upnp source. So you need to find the share on smb or nfs.
When you say Kodi won't find the server - have you tried typing in the addresss?

There is a note about UPnP on the adding sources page, but it was very easy to miss. I've tried to make it stand out more in a yellow "note" box.

In the future UPnP will be usable as a library source, thanks to the awesome media import work, but for now it does not work. UPnP listings can contain more than one path to the same entry, which would cause all sorts of duplicates with the current system.
