Surely you have any sharpness processing set to zero or off if you care about picture quality?

If you put a decent multi-burst or similar HF test pattern through the system you'll be able to objectively compare the output quality and detect any artificial HF processing (once it has been disabled in the display). I guess it is entirely possible that some post-processing has been enabled in the Beebox somehow ? Even a basic 1920x1080 image with alternate black and white samples horizontally will show this (though is a poor HF source because if it's handled non-Gaussianly?)
