I'm not sure I'm following.

Total number of hardcoded home screen categories are 11, and all of them can be disabled in the skin settings individually.

Besides the hardcoded categories, you have up to 16 custom categories.

Everything can be done in Skin Settings > Home.

Each of the categories can have up to 7 submenus, which can be changed, disabled or added in the skin settings.

Most of the hardcoded categories can have up to 6 add-on shortcuts.

I'm sorry, I should have explained what I mean better.

I basically mean the number of items that are visible at one time.
So in other words smaller labels, or maybe icons instead of the words like 'movies' etc.

Sorry, that wouldn't work.

Resizing all category images would take ages and overall I don't think it will fit with the design.

And there also have to be room in each side for the navigation arrows.

You are welcome to do your own mod, post it here in the forums, and I'll take a look at it. Edit includes_Home.xml and look for the include "HomeMenu".

How do you add or change addon shortcuts to existing categories? For example, I want to remove the "Maintenance Tool" shortcut under Programs.

Skin Settings > Home > Add-on shortcuts. Locate the Programs section.

I don't know any maintenance tool. Haven't you put it there yourself?
