I downloaded the installer, but it didn't show any images available until I checked the show all box. Is that supposed to be like that? I downloaded the .006 file. Do I need to unzip that before attempting to write the image?

I've been running openelec on a Pi in the past. This is my first go at this stuff since the regime change. . I think I'm ready to dedicate my C2 to this since I've got more pressing things on my plate, like figuring out my RGB Christmas light stuff. That's going to keep me busy for a while.

No you don't need to unzip it, just use the installer to write it to your eMMC/mSD.

I'd like to start here a small discussion about the slight audio sync issues when playing media with framerates around 24Hz respectivey 23.976Hz on wrxtasys builds (I guess all other builds behave the same, so not just wrxtasys)

At first: Please don't get me wrong here... the sync issue (if appearing at all on your setup) is easily correctable for the entire library during kodi playback in OSD menu, once you've found the offset. But let me still throw my thoughts into this thread, please.

Here and there some (me as well) mentioned this issue at forum.odroid.com. I for example thought at first it was something varying between -50ms and +50ms, but since I startet watching movies more often the last weeks I gave it a closer look. On my Philips TV it is steadily about -150ms for all 24Hz content. And this offset is not occuring with LiveTV 50Hz or 60Hz, so I'm quite sure it is because of image processing done in my tv whenever it switches into bluray playback mode with 1080p24 (24Hz). This mode is always triggering whenever bluray content is played.

Well...that being said, it means that these -150ms are TV-device specific and every TV has it's own delay because of image processing. And as I connect the Odroid C2 to my AVR (which in turn is connected to my TV via HDMI out) the delay should be correct by the AVR automatically, because there is this LipSync feature in HDMI standard - that means the TV tells the AVR the offset with a handshake.

I see how my Raspberry is handling it perfectly without any sync issues and I wonder what the reason might be that the C2 apparently does have trouble with that. Well, at first I thought this topic belongs in odroid forum, but when I saw how noggin exploded with his HDR knowledge, I then thought that here might be more specialists, who perhaps know how "Lipsync" works or who could perhaps find other explanations for sync problems. In my opinion it could likely be "LipSync" related.

my sony TV has lipsync issues with 23.976 and 24hz content no matter which source I use. Shield, odroid, rpi2, blu ray, or htpc, the sync must be adjusted.

Just received my OC2 today.
I flash the micro-sd cardwith latest libreelc version, but can't get mysql client to work.
My adancedsettings.xml is ok (working on my C1 and 3 rpi, as well as my kodi-headless docker image) but for some reason kodi on the C2 can't connect to the DB

Any idea?

OK, it seems that the mysql client is not ready on boot.
If I stop/start kodi using systemctl, it's ok.

Another strange thing is when stopping kodi using systemctl, sometimes the process kodi.bin is still present and it's not possible to kill it!

EDIT: ok, it seems thaht libCEC is preventing kodi for stopping. I disabled CEC on kodi, and now it seems ok.

Quesiton: is there a way to completly disable CEC?
It seems that it's already disabled in ./flash/boot.ini file

Last questions before bed time, and stop playing with C2 tonight

• What are the recommanded settings to bufffering/cache?
  I tried the #example4 in the advancedsettings.xml, as suggested in this post, but chapters skip remains bad: freeze (during 2s), then speedup playback (3/4 s) and finally playback is ok but not exactly at the chapter time.
  
• is there any recommanded advancedsettings.xml with all tweaks available somewhere?

• the C2 boots up so fast (9s for eMMC) that the Network barely has time to handshake and conect properly before Kodi starts
  
• yes you need to use that LibreELEC setting, "Wait for Network connection before starting Kodi" in your use case
  
• chapter skip in Kodi has always been a bit hit and miss with LE on the C2. advancedsetings.xml won't help, an updated Kernel will and that will come sometime in the future.

Like all AMLogic devices the answer is No for 1080p Frame Packed 3D video output.

LE 7.1 on the C2 can play 3D ISO's (MVC) but 3D video output will be Top/Bottom ie Half Resolution.

I now have my C2 as the main kodi box in my Family Room, so it will get a work out for a while. It replaces a chromebox, which is also extremely good, but I want to test the Odroid a bit further than I can in the office, which is not a real day to day test.

It took me two hours to get it set up with my Harmony Hub, which communicates via bluetooth with kodi. I have a little USB bluetooth stick

Once I deleted completely the existing "Watch PC" Activity and started again, it was all sweet, Lesson learned: amending existing Activities to swap hardware is a mistake. Anyway, turned out to be a Harmony issue, not an S2 issue, and the S2 is now pleasingly controlled by my Harmony remote via the Hub.

Other than that, set it to 5.1 with passthrough and turned on all the codecs. All is presently sweet.

Ok so to wrap this all up, Im probably gonna order the ODROID C2 today, gonna add a transparent plastic box, and a T3 remote
I also have a MediaRange class 10 32gb microSDHC, hope its good enough?
So how do I start exactly? is there some step by step guide?

1) Download LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.0.Aug.img.zip
2) Extract it on the MicroSD
3) Flash it
4) Download LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.0.Oct.On.Off.tar
5) Copy it to the MicroSD
6) boot.ini should update it automatically?

IS there anything else "hardware" wise I should look at as in add ons or maybe good/budget HDDs ? Planning mostly on streaming and not downloading and keeping stuff on it. Or stuff like WiFi BT? How will the remote work with it without it having BT/Wifi? any recommended dongles ? Does it even come with a power supply or need to get one?

Easiest setup method:

1) Download the LibreELEC USB-SD Creator App from HERE
2) Choose Odroid C2 > Local Image File > LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.0.Aug.img.zip
3) Choose your mSD card and "Write" it. Eject > Insert into the C2.
3) Make sure you select both SSH and SMB connect options on the setup screens when LE first runs.
4) Update using Oct.tar file from a PC with instructions from HERE
5) Enjoy !

Notes:
The C2 is a bare development board, stuff like Cases, HDMI cables, Power Supplies, BT / WiFi etc need to be purchased separately.
I personally use an old iPad1 / 2.0 Amp power supply with a Micro USB Cable (USB 2.0 Type A to Micro-size Type B) & Ethernet + my own IR remote.

- To use the On / Off power function on the C2 you need to purchase either a HardKernel C2 remote or program a Harmony remote C1/C2 profile.
- Any cheap CSR 4.0 Bluetooth USB dongle will work with the C2
- I don't like WiFi for streaming but the HardKernel WiFi Module 4 usb dongle works out of the box. MediaTek(Ralink) RTL - WiFi ones are mostly compatible.
- Any Infra Red remote control will be able to be programmed to use with the C2 (apart from Power On / Off as per above). MCE & XBOX IR remotes work out of the box.
- As with any of the these AMLogic / RPi / ARM devices, either a powered usb Hub needs to be used to connect a 2.5" HDD or use an external power brick with a 3.5" HDD.
- Black Cases are the best ones.

Best avoided. The XU4 is a powerful board but it uses a Samsung Exynos not AMLogic SoC that the C1/C1+/C2 uses - and the Exynos MFC/VPU decoder support is not as good. It's not been targeted as much for Kodi, and the experience isn't as good. I have a U2 (older Exynos) and the OE builds are still very basic. (No deinterlacing for instance)
