Win HOW TO - Set up madVR for Kodi DSPlayer & External Players
Compression Artifacts Explained

Image
Ringing Artifacts

Wikipedia: A compression artifact (or artefact) is a noticeable distortion of media (including images, audio, and video) caused by the application of lossy compression. Lossy data compression involves discarding some of the media's data so that it becomes simplified enough to be stored within the desired disk space or be transmitted (or streamed) within the bandwidth limitations (known as a data rate or bitrate for media that is streamed). If the compressor could not reproduce enough data in the compressed version to reproduce the original, the result is a diminishing of quality, or introduction of artifacts. Alternatively, the compression algorithm may not be intelligent enough to discriminate between distortions of little subjective importance and those objectionable to the viewer.

Common compression artifacts:
  • Posterizing (banding);
  • Contouring (related to banding);
  • Ringing;
  • Staircase noise (aliasing) along curving edges;
  • Blockiness in "busy" regions (block boundary artefacts, sometimes called macroblocking, quilting, or checkerboarding).

What's the best way to exit MPC-HC and go back to Kodi? I don't have a remote setup yet so I've just been right clicking (which causes screen to flicker due to go back to 60hz), then clicking exit. Is it better if I get a bluetooth adapter and pair my Harmony Elite to it?

Hello,

I installed Kodi 17 with dsplayer and madvr. The First Time i Played a file the System tray Icon from madvr occured and i was Able to configure. But now One Hour later the Icon Dosen't appear and i am not sure Kodi is Using the dsplayer. But in dsplayer Settings i enabled "use as the default Media Player". How Can i Check which Player is Used and why the madvr Icon doesnt appear? Video renderer i have madvr still used.

Can someone help me? Thanks!

Get an eHome IR receiver and program stop and exit to be the same key.

More here and here.

Press "O" during playback and observe if LAV Filters is being used.

Also, ensure you've chosen the madshi Video Renderer under DSPlayer settings.

After doing this, my Kodi crashes when I attempt to exit it. I made a post here before I was sure of what was causing it: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=312301

I believe the cause is: FATAL: CExternalPlayer:Tonguerocess: Failed to restart AudioEngine after return from external player.

Pretty sure I followed the instructions to the dot. Everything is being bitstreamed via my Titan X to my Denon receiver.

My playercorefactory rules:

Don't know. Are you sure all settings match the set up guide? You are using VideoPlayer.

I was tempted to try that until i heard the author is done making it and it's running 17.0 instead of 17.1. Don't really want to rely on dead software.

Try Jarvis 16.1. This is what I'm using: 2327445 (post).

Try changing the second rule. The player should say "PotPlayer" not "PotPlayerMini.exe." Also, you didn't mention if you are using 16.1 or 17.1. The default player in 17.1 is "VideoPlayer."
Reply
with your suggestion I opened my eyes "PotPlayer" not "PotPlayerMini.exe." Resolved to external player main and "VideoPlayer." not "DVDPlayer" as rightly done observe because I'm running Kodi v17.1 “Krypton”
thanks.
