Win HOW TO - Set up madVR for Kodi DSPlayer & External Players
(2020-07-01, 00:10)Warner306 Wrote: No, you misunderstood. Both the 2160p and HDR profiles can be triggered at the same time. The HDR profile should be selected automatically when HDR content is played and the 2160p profile will be activated if the pixel dimensions of the video match your profile rule.
So looking at the OSD I posted, I'm using the HDR Settings, and the 2160p profile, right?

I've seen your profile rules in the control panel, but that is probably accurate. The active profile will be highlighted in the madVR control panel.

Right under my projector, is a section labeled "hdr". Should that be bold when I play HDR content, or when my projector is bold, that means the settings on the drop down box of the projector, are all being used?

When your projector is selected, all settings underneath it will be active.

Hello,

First of all thanks to Warner306 for his great guide, and thanks in advance for support.
I started configuring Madvr over my PC with my new AMD 5700 XT... but the problem is that I can't see any visible enhancement between before and after configuration as shown below :

https://i.postimg.cc/VY7jwQGm/After.png

- Same observation on many videos.
- General settings are not altered.
- Windows 10 2004
- GPU driver is Adrenalin 20.5.1.

Hit Cntrl+S while a movie is playing, and check to see if your display is in bold letters, and if you set up profiles, the profile is in bold letters too. Also, what type of display are you using? From what I've read, projectors benefit much more than any other display.

- Yes, display is bold, it is AOC CQ27G2.
- No profile is set up.

I think apart from display type, the configuration done over Madvr should be reflected as an image enhancement.
I used to use Madvr before and it was greatly improving videos, but this time for some reason it does not impact image also ctrl+j statistics say otherwise.

If you can't see any enhancement, then the picture may not be that enhanced. According to the OSD, it looks like those settings are active.

If you compare the two attached images, there is no any visible difference also I am upscaling from 720p to 1440p with the highest settings available (NGU...).
I used to see a huge difference while upscaling from 720p to 1080p on my old monitor.
It seem something is not right but I cant think of what it could be what it could be.

- Another observation : with such aggressive use of the most demanding options like NGU with highest settings, there should be at least some dropped frames, which is not the case and average frame rending is considerably low.

Maybe something is not right. But some combinations of upscaling factors, output resolutions and monitors show only small improvements with madVR rather than more noticeable ones. That isn't that uncommon. But your screenshots make it appear as though everything is functioning normally.

Maybe.. I will try to reset and start over again.
Any particular settings I need to pay attention to that may lead to such behavior ? or may prevent other settings from enhancing image quality ?

Not that I know of.

Did something change in windows 2004? Or maybe the new WDDM version changed things?

I used to be able to leave the windows HDR setting off, and madVR would handle the switching. Having W10 HDR on pre-2004 would blow out anything non-HDR, like the desktop.

Now in 2004,

W10 HDR is off: Desktop looks correct, TV still switches in/out of HDR mode, but HDR videos look washed out, but the SDR videos look correct.

W10 HDR is on: Desktop looks correct, TV is in HDR mode all the time, HDR videos look correct, but all the SDR videos are way too bright

The new Nvidia drivers are not compatible with HDR playback and madVR. That might be all that is happening. I'd roll back to an older driver for now.

How do we know if we're on those non compatible drivers or not? Will they just not do HDR at all?
