WIP Ember Media Manager 1.4.8.0 ALPHA - Discussion Thread
(2016-10-03, 14:41)murkyl Wrote: I'm having some issues with Ember picking up extra files. I sometimes keep miscellaneous files associated with a movie/TV show in a directory called .extra. Ember is picking this up and trying to make it into an actual Episode or movie sometimes.

I have the following in Settings -> Options -> File System -> Excluded Directories:
.extra
.extras
bdmv
stream

But they still show up. In one of my series I'm getting Season 1280 showing up because of this.

Excluded Directories is only to add full paths that should be ignored, e.g. if you have your porn movies inside the movie source ;-)

You have to exclude single directory names by AdvancedSettings.xml (NotValidDirIs). Check this thread for more informations: Undocumented AdvancedSettings
Do always add your directories to the default list!

Edit: and yes, maybe I should rename the option to Excluded Paths Big Grin

Edit2: and don't add bdmv and stream to the list.
Dan - That could solve my issue as well. So if I added a directory called "plex" for instance, that lived in my root "TV Shows" directory, I could use the following (just adding "plex" to the exclusions)?:

<Setting Section="*EmberAPP" Content="None" Name="NotValidDirIs" DefaultValue="">plex|extrathumbs|video_ts|bdmv|audio_ts|recycler|subs|subtitles|.trashes</Setting>

Is that accurate?

I have to check that later today. I'm on the road atm.

Thanks for the note. The reason I add the individual TV folders is that I use Plex as my front end and often will just drop individual shows into my main TV folder either for myself or for someone who has a log in to my server. That way, Plex picks them up and adds
to its library, but Ember doesn't see them.

Your note makes sense, but all of my TV sources have the "contains only one TV show" option greyed out. Any idea why?

Thanks again!
I'm not shure if I understand your problem. You know that you have to run "Update Library" to let Ember scan your sources for new files?
You also know that there is an additional metadata agent for plex that can read XBMC/Kodi/Ember created NFO and image files?

If you add "plex" than Ember will skip this directory while scanning.
Forgive me for note quoting...I'm mobile right now.

Yes, I know how to update library and that Plex will pick up the NFO files. I wanted to intentionally keep some individual episodes away from Ember but visible to Plex. Not knowing about the dir exclusion possibility, I had added only the show folders that I wanted Ember to see, into Ember.

Here's what I've done now. I just removed all of my TV Shows directories from Ember. So now, nothing listed at all. I created a dir within the root of my TV Shows drive named, "Plex." I added the shows that I don't want to scrape with Ember to it and left the rest the same. I added the
exclusion line to the AdvancedSettings XML, via notepad, as the following:

"<Setting Section="*EmberAPP" Content="None" Name="NotValidDirIs" DefaultValue="">extrathumbs|plex</Setting>"

I went back into Ember, added the root of my TV Shows drive and scanned. It didn't pick anything up. Maybe this is because everything was removed from the DB and it's skipping them. Is there a way to delete the TV Shows DB only in order to fix this? Is this caused by another reason
that I'm missing with a different fix?

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help!

First, you should always use the default string in AdvancedSettings and only add yours:
Code:
<Setting Section="*EmberAPP" Content="None" Name="NotValidDirIs" DefaultValue="">extrathumbs|video_ts|bdmv|audio_ts|recycler|subs|subtitles|.trashes|plex</Setting>
Otherwise Ember recognize e.g. each chapter of a DVD rip as single movie.

If I have understood correctly you now have the following:
TV Show Source: D:\TVShows, "contains only one tv show = false"

D:\TVShows\Simpsons\Plex
D:\TVShows\Simpsons\Plex\something.mkv
D:\TVShows\Simpsons\Simpsons S01E01.mkv or
D:\TVShows\Simpsons\Season 01\Simpsons S01E01.mkv

and also the modified AdvancedSettings?

You have nothing to do if you've used to remove button in Embers settings to remove the old source. You can try to use Tools => Clean Database and run another Database Update.
You also can chek the log file in .\Ember Media Manager\Log to see if there is a reason that Ember has not added or recognize your episodes.
Ok, I'll try the default string, but thinking that might not change my current results.

Here's the hierarchy that I have now:

T:\Simpsons\Season 1\Simpsons - S01E01 - Title.mkv

T:\Plex\(individual episodes, temporarily added to Plex)

Do I need a folder off the root before the show folders?

There are two types of tv show sources:
  • Case 1: you add a directory that contains multiple tv show folders and each tv show has a directory that has been named like the tv show:
    Source path = d:\tv shows
contains only one tv show = disabled
  • Case 2: you add a directory that contains only one tv show, the name of this directory will be used as tv show name and ALL files will be added to one tv show:
    source path = d:\tv shows\The Simpsons
contains only one tv show = enabled

If you only have one path that you don't want to be scanned by Ember, you can add the full path in Settings -> Options -> File System -> Excluded Directories:
d:\tv shows\Plex (maybe is case sensitive, I'm not shure)
All paths in this list will be ignored while scanning, also all subfolders of this paths.
This solution works in both cases, but it's not really needed in case 2... the directory is anyway outside the souce.

If you have a "Plex" directory in some or all directories, you have to add "plex" in the "NotValidDirIs" string in AdvancedSettings.
This solution works also in both cases.
Ahh, didn't realize that you could add a directory and note it to be excluded in the normal settings. That's what I was missing. It seems that the advanced string fixed this anyway though. Once I cleaned the database, everything popped back up, less the shows in the Plex directory.

Seems like I'm on the way. Thanks again!!

Plex now seems to think that all shows in the Plex directory are Burn Notice. Smile Interesting...

EDIT - So, because the folder the misc shows are in is named "Plex," Plex is reading anything in it as Burn Notice. Is there any way to tell (I know, new topic stuff here) Plex to ignore the folder name?

EDIT 2 - I think I've got it. I just moved the Temp "Plex" directory out to its own separate one, so now under T:\ I have both "TV Shows" and "Plex" folders. I point plex to each one (can't just point to the root as it thinks that TV Shows and Plex are show directories) and point EMM to TV Shows only. Seems to be good now.

I appreciate the help!
Since upgrading to the alpha version, EMM keeps crashing quite frequently. Maybe Dan can look into it? Log file below:

Why shouldn't I add bdmv or stream to the list? I actually have some BD rips that I do not want Ember to process normally. I do something a bit weird in that I use a soft link at the file system layer to link to the main movie file instead. I don't like to have extra files littering the BD file structure.

But thanks for the advice. Lots of stuff to edit in the advanced settings file! I'll give that a try. Thanks for the help!

It's an error with wrong values on TMDB with movie "Turkish for Beginners". I should add more checks...
Thanks for looking into it. What do you mean by "more checks"? It does not happen every time, but it does happen with different movies.

TMDB does not really check the user imput. So it's possible to save text in a field that only should contains numbers. The API wrapper on our side is more proper, but it will crash if a value has the wrong type. So I have to add more checks to discard values instead to prevent crashes.
Terrific, thanks! Will wait the next update.
