Win Intel HTPCs/NUCs & Kodi-native 3D MVC Playback
#46
Curiosity got the better of me, and I just bought a used Dell Inspiron 3050 off eBay to try out. I need professional counsel, LOL Wink. Let's see if it performs better than Intel DN2820FYKH NUC insofar as 3D ISO's and lip sync issue are concerned. Hopefully, Celeron J1800 PQ is as good as Celeron N2820's.

Have a dim recollection that the N2820 wasn't able to do Motion Compensative deinterlacing at 1080i and maxed out at Motion Adaptive? Be interesting to know if the N3050 does better. (I think it should do as the Braswell has a significantly improved GPU compared to the Bay Trail models? Deinterlacing and decoding requires a bit more GPU grunt than just decoding) Possibly not an issue for you hdmkv but could be an issue for those who watch TV (or 1080i content on Blu-ray) on their devices.

Does Intel N3050 = J1800? In any case, thanks for that heads-up... I do watch some 1080i BD stuff, primarily concerts. Also, 1080i mpeg2 OTA via HDHomeRun. Will test both when I get my Dell 3050.

No - confusingly the Dell 3050 contains a J1800 CPU, not the N3050 you might imagine from the model name it seems : http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-3050-m...redir=true

Had made the assumption that the model name reflected the CPU. Think the J1800 has a similar CPU to the N2820? I remember fritsch being a bit scathing about the small number of EUs and the limited deinterlacing and possibly also the EUs causing a restriction to lower quality scaling?

@movie78, if you're indeed itchy, may I suggest this Asus I think @Stereodude suggested in the stickied 3D thread.

As I have a Dell Inspiron 3050 coming, it would be good to compare budget Intel h/w options: Celeron N2820 NUC vs. Celeron J1800 vs. Celeron 2957U (or similar).

A China reseller reached out to me, so I'm also expecting either a Beelink Pocket P2 (w/Intel Bay Trail Z3735F) or BT3 (w/Intel Atom X5-Z8300). Don't know which they're sending me, and whether either can also do HD audio (guessing not).

I got that ASUS in the version that includes 8.1 Bing etc. on Black Friday and it's good, though I don't do 3D. If that one works for you, you might also look at the MSI Cubi on Newegg. They usually have good prices on those, though they may come and go from stock. I just got the 3805u version for $99.99 (after $20 rebate) and the 3205 model is $109 at the moment.

Hi, looking for win 10 box for "browser use",
Tronsmart Ara X5 Plus seems good device to purchase but I wonder if there is anything that I could put my ssd in (win 10 pro currently using OLD desktop with said ssd).

Needs browser and wifi.

Any advice appreciated.

Stay away from Haswell (2xxxU) based Celerons if intend to play 3D Blurays in Windows. The Broadwell (3xxxU) based ones like those MSI Cubi should work fine according to Intel datasheets.

My next purchase is going to be i3 or i5 4th/5th/6th Gen or the Next Gen.
