And if so, why a different HDMI for audio? As it says in my sig., the 1.4 output is for the HD-audio formats, my TV (and most) don't pass trough HD-audio, DTS is the max in most cases.
Second, I am trying to set-up an Optiplex360 (older workstation style PC I got from a friend) and can't get RealTek HD Audio to install. The Windows driver won't do lossless audio passthrough. Does the windows driver you are using do passthrough fully?
Your Optiplex seems to be pre HD-audio era, DD & DTS max (if I'm not mistaken), with the Intel® G31Express Chipset and Realtek alc888 audio? Beside that, you can't use a driver that isn't compatible with the on-board hardware.
