I'm guessing that was fixed by the 8-bit color Intel driver patch. When Intel is running the pipeline at 12-bit (as in all recent kernels) and using [email protected] refresh (as for your 29.976 video), the pixel or audio clock is screwed up somehow causing frame skipping. I saw the same thing here. When you disable pass-through, I think the audio is resampled to compensate so it's less obvious. Hopefully it's not a hardware limitation and they can figure out how to get deep color modes working correctly for future playback of 10-bit video.

You can "misuse" ActiveAE for measuring it. Basically turn off Sync Playback to Display and see how often the clock gets corrected. Btw. chris pushed the original hdmi-audio tree, which is now building fine.

Finally had some time to look at this again. Where is this "hdmi-audio" tree you're referring to? The drm-intel site is a mess with all the different branches and hard to follow.
