Definitely the wrong thread, but those heat spreaders are probably as thick as a human hair. I doubt they modify the width at all, as they wouldn't fit in laptops either if they did.

I bought an UP^2 Apollo Lake Celeron N3350 board for a non-Kodi project I have on the back-burner, but thought in the interim I'd see how it faired with LibreElec and Windows installs of Kodi.

Was interesting. I've also recently switched from an Onkyo 1080p AVR to a Denon 2160p AVR - and had some issues which I've helped mitigate - but it has also generated some questions.

The UP^2 I have has dual GigE network ports, an HDMI 1.4 port and a Displayport 1.2 port, 3 x USB 3.0 Host ports, a USB 3.0 OTG port, a SATA port with SATA power adaptor available, and two on-board ports for mini-PCI-e Wifi/Bluetooth and some form of small form factor SSD storage. It's larger than a Raspberry Pi but smaller than a NUC PCB. (It has Pi-style GPIO headers alongside CSI camera interfaces and LVDS or eDP LCD ports etc.)

Mine came with 4GB RAM and 32GB eMMC storage. I've installed Windows 10 to the eMMC, and LibreElec to a USB stick. I also have tested with a Club3D Displayport 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 active converter to check 2160/50p and 60p support (my TV is 4:2:0 in these formats, and SDR only). I have this converter running the most recent firmware (yep - adaptors get firmware updates... You install them from within a utility - not sure how the PC sends data to the adaptor via the Displayport - but it does!)

1. Windows 10 - works fine connected via HDMI or Displayport->HDMI 2.0 converters to my Sony non-HDR UHD TV. Displayport -> HDMI conversion gives me the options of 2160/50p and 60p. Netflix plays up to 1080p fine. (To get HDMI audio in Windows you need to disable HD Audio DSP in the Southbridge bit of the BIOS).

2. LibreElec - with the same Displayport->HDMI 2.0 converter I get a maximum of 2160/30p - no 2160/50p or 60p. Is this an Intel driver thing? With HDMI I get what is expected 1080p at up to 60p and 2160p at up to 30p. (Same as the DP->HDMI interface in LibreElec)

I also found that my Denon Amp really doesn't like this device via either HDMI or Displayport->HDMI in either OS. I think there is an EDID issue. If I start the machine up connected directly to my TV, and then move it to the Amp, it works-ish. If, in LibreElec, I start up directly connected to the amp via HDMI I get nothing, via Displayport to HDMI I get 1024x768/60Hz and no option for 1920x1080 or 1280x720. I think this may because of the BIOS - but I may be wrong.

I HAVE managed to partially resolve this and get LibreElec to run properly, with an EDID override, using this guide as a basis ; https://wiki.libreelec.tv/custom_edid?s[]=edid This plays HD Audio bitstreamed and gives me HDMI 1.4-friendly resolutions.

However I grabbed the EDID from a working Chromebox (Haswell Celeron 2955U) connected to my Denon Amp (which has no issues) and used that to create the custom EDID on the Apollo Lake box. This now gives me working 1080p resolutions at 23-60p.

What would be good is if I could find a way of getting the DP 1.2->HDMI 2.0 adaptor to work at 50 and 59.94Hz in LibreElec (as it does in Windows). I don't know if it supports HD Audio at this resolution - I know it supports Dolby as 2160/50p resolution in Netflix playing a 1080/25p stream (The Crown is 25p in Europe - not 23.976p) I get Dolby 5.1 over ARC to my Amp when the PC is connected directly to the TV.

However with the HDMI output and a forced EDID I get 1080p for all usual frame rates, and 2160p at the 'film' frame rates (but not 50-59.94p) - along with HD Audio. It's not a cheap solution - but it's very neat.

I have the fanless version - 1080p50 H264 35Mbs content (yep - I have some of that) runs with both CPUs <20% and temps around 53C. 2160p H264 content pushes this up to nearly 70C.

Someone just had the same issue in the kaby lake thread.  I have both an intel Apollo Lake nuc and an Asrock J4205 board and had the same issues.  There is a thread on the Libreelec forum where I was finally able to get t his working buy putting some xrandr commands into the autostart.sh file.  I have get 59.94 in Libreelec with no issues.  Here is a link to that thread. Hope it helps. I have a Vizo P series and Full UHD Color also  had to be on to get the 59.94.  My receiver is a Denon X2300w.

Not sure of the relevance of that link?  My point is that the Displayport 1.2 output via an active converter to HDMI 2.0 runs at 2160/50p and 59.94/60p under Windows, but not under LibreElec.  

I'm fine with 2160/23.97-30p output via HDMI 1.4 (or the Displayort to HDMI converter) in LibreElec - but that's not much use for 2160/50p or 59.94p content (not that there's much of that - but there is some)

Sorry thought you were trying to get Libreelec to display 2160p @ 60hz on the display port to hdmi converter instead of just 30. That thread is how I was able so accomplish that.

I was - and on re-reading your posts in that thread I now see why you posted it!  Will give it a go.

(Interestingly I've just discovered the HDMI output of the UP^2 board - which has CEC implemented but not working yet - causes carnage with my AVR and other equipment, blocking HDMI ARC and CEC commands elsewhere)

That timing is for 2160p59.94 RGB/YCbCr 4:4:4. You have to use different timings for YCbCr 4:2:0. See here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2490038

Has worked for me.  This is with an Apollo Lake N3350 CPU connected via a Club3D DP1.2 -> HDMI 2.0 converter (this does 4:4:4/4:2:2/4:2:0 conversion I think) via a Denon AVR in passthrough (but with OSD enabled) into a 2014 Sony UHD TV that only accepts 2160p at 50/59.94/60Hz in 4:2:0 (not 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 - though with 23.976-30p it does accept 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 I believe)

Had another go with Windows.  It's not working consistently with the release Krypton 17.4 - but my Apollo Lake N3350 feeding out via Displayport through the Club3D DP 1.2->HDMI 2.0 adaptor is giving me 2160/50p with DTS-HD MA into my Denon AVR. (I'm playing a 1080i25 aka 1080/50i 30Mbs H264 Blu-ray encode with DTS HD MA with DXVA deinterlacing)

First 1080p23.976 movie I played I got a black screen though, albeit with DTS HD MA audio...

check kernel version (uname -r in the CLI) if it's 4.14 or later then it'll work.

LibreELEC 9 (with Kodi 18) make Apollo Lake NUC6CAYH work perfectly including both 4K@60 video output and all kind of audio formats bitstreaming, so it's software support is slow, the hardware isn't a problem, one problem remain is although it can decode HEVC 10-bit 150Mbps (I haven't tested anything higher) HDR metadata isn't output to the TV so no HDR support.

So, buy an Nvidia Shield TV now if you want a perfect Kodi box (I can't think of anything that I want that the Shield isn't supported) or hold on for a few months until LibreELEC with Kodi 18 release (still no HDR support by then as far as I know) then your NUC can be a very capable Kodi box + linux power for anything else (media server/recorder...)

I'm an Ubuntu newbie with J3455. Just installed the latest ubuntu 17.10 with kernel version 4.13.
Right now I'm having major problems with it.
1, kodi lack audio passthrough option. It's missing the toggle field.
2, hardware decoding is not working, my cpu is at 30-50%
3, playback flickering

I guess I will try to update to kernel 4.14 but I doubt it helps because even with 4.13 those basic things listed above shouldn't be a problem.
I would love to use LibreELEC but I still need to bittorrent 24/7 on the same HTPC. I'm assuming LibreELEC can't run any app other than kodi, correct me if I'm wrong.
