I understand completely that MI box does not do dd+ - > dd with official netflix app, because of dishonest marketing.

That is correct, or a buggy Dolby Audio licence implementation. Such DD+ Netflix App audio downmixing works fine on FireTV and Apple TV devices.

Yes
Quote:Also I cannot seem to figure out can anything at all be streamed at 1080p in either netflix app or kodi netflix addon? Or im locked to 580p?

Netflix App on approved Netflix media players / TV's = 1080p or 4K all the time.

Kodi Leia Netflix App = 1080p or 4K but only with Netflix Original Content, everything else will be Max. 960x540p

Huh?
So even on shield, with stuff thats on netflix which arent "originals", you cant watch in 1080p?

i thought on  shield, the kodi netflix addon would do always 1080p or evven 4k for al stuff?

Unless the Shield has got something no other Android - Google Certified, Widevine L1 equipped & HDCP 1.x/2.2 capable device has - well hidden - under the hood.
Then yes - 960x540p is the Max resolution for streaming content that is not- Netflix Originals, when using the Kodi Netflix Addon.

A simple test is "The Meg" movie. This restriction seems to mainly affect movies.

Yes

Thank you for the answer.

However are you completely sure Mi Box + Kodi  can transcode DD+5.1 to DD5.1 Huh

I have tried many many different combinations of kodi and mi box settings, but all i get with (DD+5.1) is 2 channel LPCM on my old reciever.

However DTS5.1 and DD5.1 seems to work perfect.
But DD+5.1 does not. I have tried with many different DD+ files, so this is not specific for netflix content or netflix plugin. However as all netflix sound tracks are DD+, I would really like to get kodi to work in this regard.

In kodi I have tried to set audio to 5.1 channels.
Sound to "best match" and "optimized". No difference.
I have removed check mark for E-AC3 capable reciever, but enabled for AC3(DD) and DTS.
I have frame rate swithing enabled, and I see that the frame rate changes to 24Hz when playing movies.

And as I said, DTS and AC3 is working perfectly. Just not DD+5.1 to DD5.1  conversion.

I have the latest Oreo firmware v25xx.
Also Kodi is latest version v18.3.

What on earth am I missing here?
Cannot figure it out.

For anyone else reading this and my previous post, apparently you have to set audio channels to 2.0, and then you can transcode DD+ to DD

Not exactly. Devices with proper licences like Shield (pre-Pie), Mibox, FTV Stick 4k will stream at max available resolution with hw acceleration. 1080p for non Netflix originals (some are 720p like Jurassic Park III).

"For those of you who are interested, here’s a tip on the command line to manage the passthrough on the Mi Box S:

Enable developer options

adb connect <IP Mi box>: 5555
adb shell settings put global digital_sound 1
adb shell settings put global encoded_surround_output 2

encoded_surround_output 0 = auto (random behavior)
encoded_surround_output 1 = pcm
encoded_surround_output 2 = always

I recommend option 2 (always)"

Has someone tried that? Did it work?

OK finally worked out what is going on with the Kodi Netflix Addon on Mi Box:

As soon as you enable - in VideoPlayer - Inputstream.adaptive Addon - Ignore HDCP Status

Then non Netflix content, like "The Meg" or "The Shallows" movies will also playback in 1080p Wink
