My HTPC was previously running Ubuntu 14.04 with Kodi 15 and a old version of TVheadend (addon+backend) installed around 2 years ago.

I have now just recently reinstalled everything from scratch to upgrade my system. Ubuntu 16.04 with Kodi 16.1 is now running just fine on it. Unfortunately, I'm currently struggling to install the TVheadend backend. I found 2 pages with instructions on how to install TVheadend on Ubuntu but neither of them have worked for me so far. Both pages were not specifically about Ubuntu 16.04 either....

Anyway, here's the 2 ways that I have already tried without success:

Basically, I'm getting error message when trying to 'sudo apt-get update' any related repository. Both the following command did not added a working repository for me:

echo "deb https://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/deb ubuntu stable" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list

and

sudo apt-add-repository "https://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/ubuntu stable main"

I hope someone here has succeed to install it on 16.04 and could let me know how he has done it. Any help will be obviously welcome

Nevermind, I finally use the "legacy" repo with:

sudo apt-add-repository "http://dl.bintray.com/dreamcat4/ubuntu master main"

..and it has worked to install TVheadend 4.1

How did you go getting it to autostart, I have tried Ubuntu Server/Ubuntu Desktop/Linux Mint/Debian Jessie and all of them require me to SSH in and start the service manually, I'm stuck at this point, I was only trying this as I wanted to move away from windows completely, I have Libreelec functioning great and I can get TVheadend to perform, its just this one particular thing ruining it.
