I have installed in ubuntu several times. I am trying to install on an older box for a friend but I am running into trouble so I thought I would trim down and run lubuntu/kodiubuntu. It core dumps every time I try to get it to start. I used sudo apt-get remove kodi and tried to reinstall with sudo apt-get install kodi, followed by an update and upgrade with the crash shown above. Huh

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for newbishness.Confused

We need the Debug Log that leads to this.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Sorry - that looks like years old outdated hardware. Chances are not high that it will run. As you see above the driver is not good enough for kodi.

Hrm, so a upgrade to video card may not suffice. Thanks for talking your time to help:-)

If you got a PCIe slot -> nvidia GT610 is enough.

No PCIe - I was thinking about doing something like this.

According to nVidia (http://www.geforce.com/drivers), that card uses the 340.96 nvidia driver.

LibreELEC packages that driver as nvidia-legacy https://github.com/LibreELEC/LibreELEC.t...package.mk

As does trusty it would seem:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/nvidia-340

So it should work, as long as @fritsch doesn't know of any gotchas.

No HEVC though.

Loosing HVEC seems like a big pitfall. Any options you might recommend other than a new computer?

You don't loose HEVC - it will run on the CPU as it did before ... (or did not before).

Sorry about my misunderstanding. I am scared that the system is so old it might not handle it very well. Any thoughts?

From your debug log
Code:
Host CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+, 1 core available

I doubt that is going to be much good for HEVC. You will however have hardware acceleration for mpeg2 and h.264 on the nvidia card.

I doubt that, too. If you are scared get a board + cpu + memory :-) and check if the powersupply is capable of powering those new components.
