Problem downloading Kodi 16.1
#1
I have a problem. I'm using Ubuntu 16.04. I am new to Kodi. I few days ago I downloaded Kodi 16.1 and everything was fine. I thought I had a problem with Kodi and I uninstalled. After that I went right back and installed Kodi. Only to have a whole new version installed. It said Kodi 17.0 Alpha. Which would be all fine and good, except that now none of my add-on work at all. I have no sound or video. Just the blue background. Boy, do I wish I hadn't uninstalled it the first place. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks!

SO it looks like 17 is being dragged in because you asked for nightlies. So get rid of the xbmc-nightly ppa!

As well as removing the nightly PPA, as nickr said:

http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_XBM...nt_version

... you can force the right version with:

sudo apt-get install kodi=16.1~git20160425.1001-final-0xenial

Note this will attempt to just change Kodi, and not touch addons or dependent packages, vs the wiki steps which remove Kodi and re-install, keeping your userdata intact. I don't know if the outcome is different, as I presume Kodi can test for addon versions, so I offer this as a suggestion only.

Gentlemen, thanks for the help. But it seems now I can't uninstall Kodi. This is what my terminal screen shows.

uwekup@Hounddog:~$ sudo apt-get update

I did try to force the right version first. But it gave my this:

uwekup@Hounddog:~$ sudo apt-get install kodi=16.1~git20160425.1001-final-0xenial[sudo] password for uwekup:

First, "kodi*" is pattern-matching all files in that directory, so it's trying to uninstall "kodi_crashlog" et al because that's what it's finding. The easiest fix is to change directory to somewhere where there are no kodi-anything files.

Second, just check the output of apt-cache policy kodi immediately after an apt-get update - and then copy-and-paste the version string from whatever's found there into the apt-get install command.

I'm having a similar problem, and I would very much appreciate it if someone could help. I had Kodi 15.2 installed and working (on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS), but I wanted to upgrade Kodi to 16.01 Jarvis. Thing is, I don't remember how I installed the 15.2 version (I do remember I had some sort of problems) so when I tried upgrading with the standard commands sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade, it didn't update Kodi. I believe there wasn't any kodi repositories... So I installed those, but then everything went south, now Kodi doesn't launch at all.

When I type "apt-cache policy kodi", I get:

kodi:
Nameščen: 15.2+dfsg1-3ubuntu1
Kandidat: 2:16.1~git20160425.1001-final-0xenial
Preglednica različic:
2:16.1~git20160425.1001-final-0xenial 500
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu xenial/main i386 Packages
*** 15.2+dfsg1-3ubuntu1 500
500 http://si.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

And if I try removing kodi alltogether, i get, same as @uwekup:

Branje seznama paketov ... Narejeno
Gradnja drevesa odvisnosti
Branje podatkov o stanju ... Narejeno
E: Ni mogoče najti paketa kodi_crashlog-20160425_113346.log

Please help...

read the post above yours as to why you get this error when trying to remove kodi.

You don't need to remove it though, just run
sudo apt-get upgrade
