OS X [Mac Mini] [v17 Nightly] Choppy Video Playback
I'm finding playback in 17.4 on High Sierra (iMac 13,1) to be stuttery - noticeably dropping frames at seemingly one second intervals.

This next is not a kodi problem, but I have (and is widely reported) a problem where most video files have to be verified on opening in VLC and this causes several seconds delay before playback starts. I'm speculating, but could the stuttering in kodi be a manifestation of that problem?

I let the video run for about 30 secs and noticeably sticking approx every second. Audio unaffected.

iMac 13,1 running OSX 10.13 with its recent supplemental update applied. It is a clean install of High Sierra.

Let me try again.

Video (Badlands) was playing from 06.39.45 timestamp for 1min and 50 seconds. The slight stutter was evident throughout playback. There is no such stutter in VLC nor when run under Sierra

Still seeing the same stuttery playback in the new Kodi 17.5

Updated the OS to 10.13.1 and the stutter remains. To my eye it looks very regular intervals.

Pleased to report that my video stutter appears to be resolved with the 10.13.2 update

Can confirm that the OS update removed all problems playing back HD recordings.
I had to switch off hardware acceleration though.
My system is MacBook Air 2013.

Unfortunately I am experiencing the same problem on my Macbook featuring a nVidia 320m.

As far as I understand the problem is arising in Kodi v17 because the video player is now using the ffmpeg library.

Would it be possible to port the workarounds present in Kodi v16 to ffmpeg to fix playback on our hardware?

V16 uses a different and deprecated api...

VTB = VideoToolbox

This problem still exists in Kodi Leia.  VTB turned off seems to help a little but the problem is still there.  I don't think I've ever had Kodi working without this issue on my Mac Mini from 2012. Highly annoying problem.

Out of curiosity can you enable VTB and try to play something that usually stutters while having an apple screen sharing session on to the mac mini? Does it help?
