Win Recorded TV playback ends when watching a current recording
#1
Hi All,

I'm having an issue that's killing the WAF since moving from MediaPortal (and this isn't even about the daily Kodi crashes that i haven't gotten around to diagnosing).

When a recording starts, we start watching that recording on a slight delay. Playback only lasts up until the point when we started watching. The expected behaviour would be that it reaches that point and continues rather than stopping. Does anyone have this issue? It's basically a show stopper if you want to watch something that you're recording on a slight delay.

Apologies if this has been answered before but i couldn't find it. This issue occurred with Kodi 15 and the previous version of nextPVR too.

Windows 10
Kodi 16
nextPVR 3.7.7

It's a limitation of Kodi itself when playing rcordings over http. The same thing happens in all PVR addons that use http for streaming the recordings to Kodi.

Ah, thanks for the response. What's bizzare is, sometimes it reaches the end of the recording and continues playback rather than stopping. It happens infrequently, but it does happen.

If you watch your show via "file mode" (otherwise access the recording file rather then in Live TV mode), it will continue playing till the end. But if you happen to catch up to "Live" it will also stop just like you have been experiencing. In my case, I watch everything via file mode. Much fewer issues that way. Only thing you have to remember is that if you pass the place which was the end of the recording when you started (hope that makes sense) then decide to stop watching, your bookmark won't be there. So if I am going to stop it, I make my own bookmark via OSD before I stop watching.
Hope this helps.

Can I ask how you access your recordings in order to do this?

Is it via the Live TV -> Recordings menu item, or have you got a separate Source, or menu shortcut configured to navigate directly to the directory?

Is playing a show, and having it stop, while it is still recording continue to be a limitation in Kodi v.18?

As far as I know - yes.

 Any idea why?
Can it be fixed?
It's incredibly annoying behaviour - one that we frequently encounter.

I don't know - it's an underlying limitation in Kodi itself when playing recordings over http. It's not a bug in the NextPVR addon, or other PVR addons that use http, so not something I have any direct control over.

The work around I have seen and use is going to Videos > Files  and begin to play the recording show through there, it will continue to conclusion.

Playing the currently recording programme from Videos > Files made no difference for me, it still stopped at the point the programme was at when I started playing it.

Was it playing the show regular or did you fast forward through commercials? I have had an issue when attempting to fast forward through the commercials and ending up at what was the 'end of the recording' when I stopped.

Most likely we'd have used fast forward to skip breaks. I only did it once and found playing as video made no difference - but what you say rings a bell where I was sure on a couple of occasions we'd watched a current recording (using normal TV recordings) without it ending prematurely, so maybe that's a common thread?

From what I have observed the end time does not update, and as you try to fast forward past this mark, the video has shut down for me. I have either had to not go to that end point, or stop the recording and then it will update the end point.

Any update on this? I'm experiencing the same issue on fresh installed NPVR + Kodi (android TV and RPi3)
