Still looking to replace my current htpc (ion2), almost ordered the Wetek hub, but ...
I use my htpc also to play music, my collection is in flac and I also have some hires files 24/192 is highest.
But now I read that Android (Shield users) are unable to get the correct output using Kodi, files are resampled to 16/48.
Is this a problem with Kodi on Android, a user problem (default Kodi settings are 16/48 so you need to change it) or purely Shield issue?
What about DSD files, would Kodi be able to stream them?

This is what is stated on the site:
SHIELD supports 7.1 and 5.1 surround sound pass through over HDMI. It also supports high-res audio playback up to 24-bit/192 kHz over HDMI and USB and high-res audio upsample to 24-bit/192 hHz over USB. On SHIELD controller, the 3.5 mm headphone jack supports a mic and stereo headphone combo.
But what I read is that the Shield is able to playback 24bit, but not if you use Kodi. So I wonder if this is a problem with Kodi on Android or with the Shield only.

No - it is not. Most you can get is Float Audio and if you are lucky 96 khz. This is for PCM Audio. For Passthrough more works.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

From Kodi perspective, Hi-Res audio doesn't work on the Shield, but you can get 24/196 stereo output with other players that are based on Android's default NuPlayer. You will also get 24-bit multichannel hi-res output with USB audio.

If audiotrack reports support for 24/196 two channel, kodi should be able to do it. FireTV only goes up to 24/96. No 192kHz support there.
I have a new toy coming, I can start poking in a week or two.

The current AudioTrack code is a bit slack about probing capabilities. I've improved it a bit in MrMC fork and cleaned up some of the spaghetti code but waiting on new toy for further cleansing. Between the fireOS and the new toy, should be able to cover most all capabilities. Note, all AML special handling has been removed. Time for them to step up and behave like normal android devices.

Ok the reason why I have and buy Hires audio is more that they are often better mixed than the regular 16bit (cd) stuff. There are many test out there on the loudnesswar db that show you what I mean.
I will go back to usb connection for audio output in the future, today I use hdmi, the thing is Kodi doesn't need todo a thing with the audio file, that is something the dac will do.
It's that I like the scraper in Kodi and use Kore on my phone or tablet to play music.
So if I read this correct it's something todo with Kodi on the Shield as you are able to play the files on the Shield using an Android musicplayer?
