Thanks for this. Have been looking for a new front end to remove need for mouse and keyboard from PC, and this looks good.
Set up to run windows shortcuts as defined here and it all worked. exactly as explained.

One minor bug: Does not launch game if shortcut contains an apostraphe character ('). Renamed shortcut and all good, but thought I'd let you know.

So now that its working, of course I want more....
I would like game "thumbnails" and even fancy looking stuff like in first page of this thread.
Tried various setting combinations to get the metadata+image scraping but cannot, it is never pulling any data.
- Is there a recommented set of settings for windows games scraping?
- Do I need to rename the shortcuts? Just have a folder containing shortcuts as installed.
- Is this just broken and all the fancy screens from first page were done using manually created xml files?
- Is it just a website scraper (no API) and so scrapers can get out of date?

Not critical, I have the main thing I wanted. Can boot to kodi, and then launch movies and games with wireless controller. So thanks so much again.
But you know "give me an inch, I try to take a mile"

By default AEL maps Icons to Boxfronts, so if you are using a standard skin you want to make sure you have the Boxfronts of your games. Currently, the scrapers in AEL don't work so you have to download the artwork manually, make the PNG/JPG pictures with the same name as the LNK file, put in the appropiate artwork directory and rescan for local artwork using the Launcher context menu. Make sure you read the post "Explanation of AEL ROM assets and how they are mapped to Kodi standard assets".

To fill in the metadata, I recommend you export NFO files, which will be created next to the LNK files. Then, edit the NFO files and import them into AEL database.

The fancy screenshots at the beginning of the thread are taken using skins that support AEL. Note that standard skins only display Icons and Fanarts, and maybe Banners and/or Posters. A skin with AEL support has views that display all metadata and most of the artwork AEL supports. Note that AEL supports so many pieces of artwork that it is even unpleasant to display them all in a single view Smile Also, next to the screenshot is the skin used for the shot, so you know where to look for.

I recommend you install a program like Total Commander if you use Windows, is really powerful to rename and move files and images conveniently, until I fix the scrapers again in 0.10.0. 0.10.0 is going to take still a while, real life is not being nice with me currently and I have little free time and motivation for coding. However, AEL 0.10.0 will be released eventually, in 1, 2 or 4 months, I don't know. Please be patient.
