For all that spam this thread without any valuable information: I will ask our moderators to directly delete such stuff in the future. It does not help it only brings this thread to a wastebin niveau. We tested AC3 transcoding internally on various shields: Works on all of them.

All fine from firmware pov. It seems that this new firmware simply did not have external devices in mind. As the external don't support the IEC PT format. The only thing that might help is a special version of the shitty build. Meaning redifining IEC format to SNE16 format :-). Can do that if you feel adventerous ...

Edit: If you can't wait: https://github.com/fritsch/xbmc/commit/c...208609R858 <- overwrite the -1 check and overwrite it always ...
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
For the external soundcard users, that whine for the old pcm hack: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/andro...bi-v7a.apk .. handle with care.

Well this sees the end of me using Kodi on my Sony Bravia 4K x850C.

I'd started with Kodi 16 and the PKC plugin as it handled the DTS and audio formats better than the official Plex app. That's no longer the case so back to Plex.
Good bye.

Is it true that the dolby AC3 patent just expired?

Yes

Testing this on on my Sony Bravia xd85. Seems to work well. Getting passthrough on 5.1 sound.

Edit: with this build the TV starts daydream when watching Live-TV? Never happened before.

Edit 2: after a while audio was out of sync watching a 5.1 movie.

What is not working for you? I have it all working on my Sony with the PCM hack. Is it that you want DTS and not transcoded to DD?

A good soul was so nice to post a Debug Log with DSF files and the fix was a one liner .... will be in 17.1

PT or convert to PCM?
LG 77G1 • Onkyo TX-RZ70 • Q Acoustics F:2050i C:2000Ci R:2020i A:QI65C • 2x BK Elec XXLS400-DF
Vero V (OSMC) • Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) • Sony UBP-X800M2 • Sony PlayStation 5
Android has NO support for DSF passthrough ... so that won't happen anytime soon. Here happy testing: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/andro...bi-v7a.apk - should run with 176.4 khz.

sorry im a noob at this, but just so you know I'm not using an external USB sound card, I've got my Nvidia Shield plugged into a HDMI audio extractor that just splits the audio away from HDMI to optical (as my audio receiver only supports optical Sad)

Any advice for a workaround so I can use Kodi 17? or is my extractor still regarded as an 'external device' even though it simply splits the audio away from HDMI (I know I should have bought a proper receiver with HDMI lol)
Your splitter has nothing to do with that. Set kodi channels to 2.0 enable DTS / AC3 and see what you get.

But as said earlier, install this build: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/andro...bi-v7a.apk and see if something changes. This restores v16 pseudo passthrough.

yes mate, exactly that. I know Kodi may bring other handy features, but for me this was the thing that made me choose Kodi over Plex, it handled audio formats more fully.

Seeing as they both now end up converting DTS to DD I'm heading back to Plex as it is more 'wife friendly'.
